Description Aaand another one (wow, I'm fast today! o.o)

Plz be nice, it's my first take on Cardassians (what's more I totally suck at profiles but that doesn't stop me from trying... >.<)
On Animexx I recounted the whole scene this picture belongs to, but I don't think I'll have to do that here. (Blabla, Call to Arms, blabla station evacuated, blabla Garak's and Ziyal's last goodbye ;___; *sob*)

The one thing I DO like about this picture is the hair! *pats shoulder* And the skin.

So enjoy!
I promise to keep practicing until the characters actually look like themselves... ^-^"

[EDIT]
Swapped the picture for a better quality one with higher color resolution (and corrected my typos^^")

Wow, that's amazing. The hair looks so detailed and shiny!
I'm also very impressed how well you shaded their clothes, especially Garak's crazy outfit. Great job!

Thank you very much
I have purchased my own scanner since I uploaded this picture, so I've been pondering whether I should re-upload it (to get rid of the slightly rough texture and yellowish tint).
But I'm happy you like it

I love the hair too! You know, this is the best picture of Ziyal I've seen in a long time. The shading is amazing, and I LOVE they way you did her dress. Amazing job.

AWWWWW!!!! I looove ittt!!!! It makes me sad and happy at the same time and I want to get out the DS9 disks and have a marathon now except I'm studying for a final tomorrow!!!

OmGOSH the hair!! it is so shiny and beauuuutifull!!!! And really good job on their costumes too! I tried drawing Garak in that outfit once and all those little diamond bits are annoying as hell, but you pulled it off perfectly!

I think the only thing wrong here is Ziyal's face... something is up with her jaw being too big But she's still adorable, and you captured them really well!

ZIIYAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL

Thank you so much!
The pattern on Garak's clothes drove me CRAZY! Why does he have to be so flamboyant about his taste of clothes?! >.<
Over here we're having the obligatory Sci-Fi-May on one of out TV-channels - at 3 ò clock something in the morning!
Who are they expecting to be awake at that time?!?
'Sides, German Star Trek creeps me out to no end (partially because of the "du/sie" differentiation in addition to "First name/last name/Sir, Madam" - it just totally alters the characters' relations to one another from what I imagined them to be in the original)

I'm still practicing on Ziyal (and Garak), I hope I'll get her right soon *wants to do more DS9-FA*
*-*

teeheehee! Well I definitely encourage more DS9 fanart

I am totally unfamiliar with German! what is du/sie? I think translating anything into another language makes it oddly different... i used to watch alot of anime and there's a big difference between the ones that air in America for kids, so they change what they're saying to fit American culture, vs subtitled versions where they're still talkin' "-san" and "-chan" and "ore" and "boku" and all these little things that add to it if you know stuff about japanese culture...

Du/Sie is an additional distinction in addressing someone.
Normally "Sie" is used in combination with Herr/Frau (engl.: Mr./Mrs. - regardless of marriage status) but on occasion it's used with first name, or the last name is used along with "Du".
And yes, that is about as confusing as it sounds and divides peoples' relation much stricter than English (imho).

The formality table in addressing someone would probably stand as follows:
1) Sie + Last name (your boss, teacher, superior officer...)
2) Sie + First name (close work relationships; same rank/status or lower than yourself.)
3) Du + Last name (phew... tough one. 2) with a twist I guess. But that's probably down to mutual agreement)
4) Du + first name (Friends, family, the usual.)

You see my point (problem)?
Over the course of one Star Trek series, I imagine the main cast to grow closer, becoming friends, even regarding one another as family on occasion.
English lets me decide for myself when each character makes the transition for each other character.
And then I watch Voyager's "Endgame" (huge disappointment, btw.)in German and in the teaser that is supposed to show me how close they've all grown over the years - I hear them sie-zing one another and my brain thinks: "Whoa! Is it just me or dd the room temperature just drop by 10°C?!"

But other than that, German's ok. I've spoken it for 22 years now and I'm still alive
I'm still more quick-witted in German than in English, but some things I can describe better in English because I only need one word instead of a whole lexicon entry.
So it kinda balances.
I hope to get my wits together in English someday, but I guess that's just down to practise... (Once I return home... *dreamy*)

Anyway, I'm ramling

ahh I understand! It is alot like japanese with the -chan, -kun, -san, -sama suffixes... I can see how that would interfere with the cast relationships, especially since its the dubber to decide.
