Whew! Finished just in time!

El has been into Pokemon but I didn't know she was into Digimon too. Late last month she asked if she could be Lilimon for Halloween. I said maybe but I didn't know who that was. So she sent me this picture...wikimon.net/Lilimon and I was like...

I procrastinated most the month of October because it usually takes me a long time to process, plot, and decide on a course of action. I started working on it about a little over a week ago. So, underestimating how much time I had, especially after losing a 1 1/2 days over some family stuff, I managed to finish the majority of the costume in time for El to wear to school yesterday and the leaf decorated wings in time for tonight's party at her dojo. So tired.

The only thing not handmade was the pink leotard. Everything else was done in my usual way - B.S.'d.

The skirt is made up of five "petals" dipped in watered down India Ink and sewed on a sash.

The hat is smaller dipped petals, but lightly stuffed like a pillow and sewed together.

There is a little, yellow stamen on the top but it's hard to see in this picture. It's made from a small tube of lightly stuffed yellow cotton with a pipe cleaner in the middle, making it pose able. I'm very proud of that part - it was the only thing I made in under 20 min.

The "hair" strands (they made me think of giant string beans when I made them) are tubes of green cotton and stitched onto the inside of the hat with several down the back. El decorated them.

The arm covers are green India ink dyed trouser socks (can you believe no store sells plain, white knee highs anymore????)

The yellow petals are attached to green scrunchie-styled wrist bands.

The wings are cardboard and felt, that I attached backpack-like straps onto. The leaves El decorated are sewn to the straps.

This is probably the most elaborate costume I've ever made from scratch. I had created costumes for dance and plays before, but nothing like this. El loves it and I'm actually very proud of the work I did. Now to clean up my craft room...
