Description This is an ortho of the latest version of my Kelway Station model.

I have slightly reduced the radii of the saucers since the last render, since they seemed a bit large. I have also altered the patterns on the top and underside of the the saucers (deflector grid or shield grid perhaps?) to make them look more interesting, and added extra widgets at the tips of the three big tanks.

Rendered using POV-Ray 3.7 on 8th July 2014.

Very elegant, but...

In the previous renders you focussed on the docking arcs, yet this arrangement has the shuttle block as the central (& focal) area. Have you considered or tried switching the two around?

Apart from putting the focus back onto the more detailed* area, it would also give a more compact look (less hourglass, more spinning top shaped) & possibly be more practical from a functional perspective, since the majority of people physically transferring to or from the station would be doing so through the arcs, from large vessels, so having that section nearer to the habitation area would make sense.

I always seem to nitpick & I always feel a little guilty - I don't want it to come over as not appreciating your work, but you take my suggestions so well!

*(Yes, I realise that the shuttle bay is increadibly detailed, with full interior & every window looking into a slightly different room, but in most shots that's not obvious)

There are several reasons why I put the docking module low down on the structure:

1) If ships docked at the station on the near side, they will block less of the station from view,

2) If the docking module is in the middle of the structure then you will tend to see it side-on, which is not its best aspect. By putting it lower down, you will tend to see it from slightly above and so get a better view of it. By contrast the shuttlebay module is less detailed (as you rightly say) and so looks much the same from any angle.

3) ...um...I'm sure there were others but I forget what they were...

As far as the distance from the ships to the habitation areas goes, I don't think it's an issue. This station is so small that no part of it is very far from any other part. By comparison see these: fav.me/d3ewc3x | fav.me/d2las7t | fav.me/d4h2utp - all of which I like, but they are very big  .

Having said all that, I tried swapping the docking and shuttlebay modules round as you suggested and the docking module does look very good in the upper position. Unfortunately the shuttlebay module looks awful in the lower position. Really, really awful. I am trying to think of an alternative and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Don't worry, I don't mind the nitpicking, it shows that people are actually taking the time to look at my pictures properly

Looking good Do any of the saucer sections have any small access hatches ?, i'm thinking something similar to Star Trek TMP.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

Each saucer has one round airlock somewhere around its circumference (the one on the top saucer is the easiest to see), but there are no access hatches in the top side or underside. It was something that simply hadn't occurred to me.
