Description The British built Napier-Heston Racer was an effort, by the British private sector, to build a high speed aircraft to capture the world' speed record, then held by the German Bf-209, in 1940, while the Battle of Britain was beginning.
Unfortunately, the Napier-Heston "Racer" was destroyed on it's first flight, without achieving the goal of breaking the German held speed record. and the Heston Aircraft Co. abandoned the project.
However...., there was a second version of the craft, about 80% complete, and this attracted the attention of the renowned, and most controversial aircraft scientist (you guessed him), Prof. Anton Veeblefitzer(!!!).
So..., there's more mischief to follow!
Pictured is the sole Napier-Heston Racer, prior to it's ill fated first flight.
For details on this craft, please visit the Wikipedia bio "Napier-Heston Racer".Β

The mischief is the "Mercury" fighter, next Deev' over.

.......(mischief....... . Now that would be a good name for a Veeblefitzer design!)

Maybe I should have some planes *SHWA-SHWA-ing*, just to see what the stork delivers!

Yeah i don't think that a very good idea, trust me i've seen some shit man www.dailymotion.com/video/x4i7… (especially near the end), the only thing worse the crossbreeding/DNA mixing animal with other animal that should never ever have mixed, is mixed bread animal puns.

Thanks!
I just used Microsoft "Paint" and highlighted the background with light grey using the "spray" device.
I should get off my can and learn to use GIMP!

Alays found the method for Type 5 venting/dumping the radiator heat out board interesting.

Can't rememberr when the reasearch into the P-51's radiator design became well known as a comparison.

Little things like that I find fascinating.

According to the Wikipedia bio, the pilot, on that first doomed flight, suffered burns from the radiator being placed right under him!

Oh yes.

Remember. The early Fw 190's had a reputaton for leaving the pilot's feet feeling rather toasty as there wasn't much room between the big BMW radial and fire wall. The production model added multiple inches (Feet?) to the over all length giving the pilot more 'room'.

Then ther's the issue with the P-38. Because of how the heater was positioned the poor pilot pretty much ended up with one foot feeling cooked and the other freezing.

It's the 'Little' things in the designs you tend to slowly collect reading memoirs over the years.

Right!
During the late 1930's, President Roosevelt and the War Dept., knew that war was inevitable.Β  So there was a big rush to design and mass produce as many aircraft, tanks, ships, etc., as fast as was possible.
So lots of mistakes were made!

Welll... not 'Mistakes'...

More like... 'Well, we can put this here and that there..... Oh, we kind of forgot about that other thing. DO we have any room left?" *Looks through plans to see if there's any free space*
