I'm mostly leaving this up to interpretation. I just needed some excuse to get Jero to expose his own stomach in front of Britney for her to (literally) poke fun at.

Well, his "obsession" with her navel is pretty much something I tend to poke fun at. Don't know if I brought this up before, but you notice how many cartoon girls in TV shows and movies usually wear outfits that show off their belly buttons? And how, like, that's a common trend or design choice for almost every girl character in an old TV cartoon show?
I also noticed how not once were those midriffs or navels touched at all by anyone. Not a single finger or object come into contact with the bare skin. Not to mention I hear some girls are rather ticklish around the navel area.
So I created Jero and Britney, two who are aware of the bare midriff as well as tend to poke fun at it, literally, by playing a little game of theirs where he teases her tummy and she teases him back.
It's mostly me making a bunch of belly jokes out of this trope which aren't really ever done at all (until more recently with Adventure Time and such).

The only 2 that come to mind are Kim Possible and Starfire. Starfire doesn't have a naval and Ron never cared about Kims naval excluding when they swapped brains "how do you explain this bare mid drift? "
I'm ticklish sure but my feet are my weakness
So the only reason you made Jero is to do Naval CPR?
I always found it weird I could grow a human in my stomach. It's like that scene from Aliens were that creature bursts out of that guys stomach or that scene in Ghost Busters or Poltergeist(?) where that thing stretches through the fabric and makes some kind of special effect. In short terms I hate how I can can be used to grow humans like an incubator with legs

You know what's weird about Starfire, though? She's usually not animated with a navel, EXCEPT for when they slip it in in a couple of episodes (I still remember this one episode where Raven is afraid of the dark, and in one brief scene, Starfire's navel appears out of nowhere!). Also, her navel appears more in the promotional pics.
Oh, yes, I remember that Kim Possible episode. In fact, I think her midriff was addressed a few more times. One time coming from her grandmother, telling her she couldn't walk around with her belly button poking out like that, putting a large sweater over her. And then Kim's father showing her an earlier new outfit for her to wear, saying, "I always dreamed of seeing you save the world without baring your midriff." I guess Kim's wasn't totally ignored.
Plus, there are more girl characters out there with bare midriffs. There's the Kanker Sisters from Ed, Edd 'n Eddy, as well as Ed's little sister Sarah, there's Sabrina from Sabrina: The Animated Series and Sabrina's Secret Life, April O' Neil in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jasmine from Aladdin (yes, movies count), Jenny/XJ9 from My Life as a Teenage Robot as she's designed to resemble a bare midriff with her belly bolt being her belly button, there's Zoe from Digimon (who actually got her navel tickle tortured at one point... yep, in a kids' show, on Toon Disney), Zoe and Ursula from Dinosaur King, Misty from Pokemon, these girls from this Bakugan show, there was this one girl from this show called Cubix, Vicky from Fairly Odd Parents, Sam from Danny Phantom, Nani from Lilo and Stitch, Supergirl for a while, the girl characters in this show called Braceface, Dora the Explorer to some extent, Daria's sister in Daria, etc. I'm sure there are plenty more. But these are the ones I remember the most.
Oh, and Lola Bunny from Space Jam. Even with no navel, she's still baring her midsection.
With this in mind, it almost seems like a girl character isn't a true girl character unless their belly button is exposed. While I do find them cute, and often attractive, I also find it kinda funny that THIS is one of their "defining traits/tropes". I can almost imagine the designers' mindsets simplified, going like, "It's a girl... so must show her belly button, because... girl! That's all they're known for."
So I kinda created Britney to have fun with the idea and do something silly with it.

Well......... okay, I do admit, that was Jero's primary characteristic and trait, originally. Yeah, he was mostly created to be the one Britney works off of with the midriff jokes. Over time, though, I thought it'd be better if he could do more than just poke fun at her tummy and instead be more of a fun guy to talk to and hang out with. I mean, he is part of a group of friends that is mostly ALL girls! Four girls, and he's the only guy. That must say something about him. So I decided to make him a bit of a charmer and fun guy.
Not to mention I am planning this story ark with them where Jero shows he truly cares more about Britney as a person than just messing with her tummy all the time. I won't give away much more info than that.

Ah, that only happens if you mate with someone and "do it" with them.
Though, yeah, I suppose it is kind of a painful process, growing them inside of you, and anything that goes wrong may result in either the baby's death or your own.
However, I did hear there are new studies going on where, even while the baby is in development, you can still take it out and it can continue growing in these womb-like bags in labs or hospitals, so I guess the mother doesn't have to suffer as much.
