Jimma1300 β€” Fictional women with Slavic accents are always bad

Description Yep, that's right

Pretty much all our Slavic-accented beauties in fictions besides Linka in Captain Planet all fight on the dark side:

Turmoil from SWAT Kats
Mousy Galore from Pinky and The Brain
Red Claw from Batman and the animated series
Natasha Fatale from Rocky and Bulwinkle
Electronique from Kim Possible
Baroness from GI Joe
Madame Rouge, who's actually supposed to be French, but was clearly Russian or Slavic accent in her Teen Titans portrayal
Galina Korzakhov from What's New Scooby-Doo
H2Olga from Fairly Odd Parents
Tala from Justice League Unlimitied
Irina Spalko from Indiana Jones
Decapre from Street Fighter
Valentina Vostok from DC's Legends of tomorrowΒ
(And i'm pretty sure i've heard Madame Hydra from Marvel speak with a Slavic accent on one occasion. Her accent has varied in several speaking portrayals of her, but she is meant to be Hungarian)

All have Slavic accents and are all villainesses. Are there any Slavic women in fiction that have the accent besides Linka that are heroines, or is she it???

Well, the only other ones i know of are the three digidestined that featured in one of the Digimon Christmas episodes, but the actors did an absolutely PATHETIC job at a Russian accent!

I don't count Black Widow from Marvel (Even though she's awesome) and Alice Gehabich from Bakugan because even though they're Russian, they just have boring American accents instead of their traditional accent

Can someone please make one for me? Do i really need to keep making them myself just to see anymore besides Linka???

It's because Slavic accents naturally sound scary to english speaking people. Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRIsC7…

It seems that countries besides the US that are considered 'good guys' in American media are usual China, Japan or any place that speaks Spanish or PortugueseΒ

Actually you know it totally makes sense that throughout the entirety of the cold war the Russians, to the entire western world, would have been seen as the bad guys and thus easy targets for cartoon characters.
And a lot of that is still kinda just hanging around.

Of course, unfortunately the stereotypical typecasting of other nationalities in US media will always linger. Americans will always be #1 (), Russians will always be evil communists, Germans will always be Nazis, Brits will always be 'polite villains', Chinese and Japanese will always be super-wise, and Australians (where I'm from) will always be living in shacks in the desert, wearing cowboy clothes and carrying boomerangs around. Funny thing is, US animation still tends to think Australia is a third world countryΒ

I wouldn't specifically out Americans alone for this though. I think if you look into it you'll find everyone has their stereotypes they put on everyone else, and as long as you don't go too far or take it too seriously, that can all just be part of the fun. I live in the U.S. myself and I see most of these, that you just mentioned on a daily basis, however every now and then an anime (either Japanese or European) will come along and it gets interesting to see how someone else portrays another culture, or even yourself in a large number of cases.

I'm not taking offense to it I just wish more people would distance themselves from these stereotypesΒ

It would be nice to see more creativity in fiction. At the same time I think there is a place for well known and easily understandable characters you can follow well.
If you do nothing but a bunch of stuff everyone has seen a million times you're old hat and boring but if you're absolutely 100% new and crazy with every little detail then you end up totally avant garde and off the wall.

Somewhere there has to be a very delicate balance. A kind of steady rhythm with some well placed off-beats.

Back to your original point; it is true that Male characters with Slavic accents can sometimes break through the mask of villainy: The fat jolly toy maker or the brilliant scientist ally, Checkofv from Star Trek etc. but whenever it's a female character it's always a villain.

I think the reason for that is that like I said a Slavic accent sounds very gruff and harsh to westerners or anyone who speaks English. Also most Slavic languages (Especially Russian) don't make use of articles so if the character speaks English using that same format it also comes off barbaric sounding. Now when a male character does that no one thinks twice about it but since we want ALL our female characters to be pretty and dainty, and attractive, and all... *Cough* Disney Princesses *Cough!* the same can't quite be said.

It did occur to me that there was a movie called "Kindergarten cop" staring Arnold Schwarzenegger as an undercover cop in which his partner had to pose as his sister in one scene, thus putting on a ridiculous fake Russian accent which was funny but it might be the exception for the rule.

Ok, so maybe it doesn't quite count since it was fake but still she didn't play the bad guy in that scene.

That's true She's technically supposed to be Russian... or of decent or something.
Of course I think she actually had a bit of a shaky star in her earlier days. She got more heroic as time wore on. Kinda like Cat Woman.

Black Widow can speak about a DOZEN different languages PERFECTLY. So technically if she really wanted to, she could very easily speak with VARIOUS accents up to, and INCLUDING a Russian accent! So I say she counts by default! I do not know for sure ifΒ  Natasha counts because according to June Foray the voice actress who played her she and Borris are not really evil, just DUMB. (LOL) That could be why Fearless Leader keeps them around... Because they are too stupid to figure out how to stand up to him and too scared to try! The only other female heroes I can think of right now with Russian or Slavic or East European accents are Darkstar and (In SOME ways...) Molotov Cocktease!
