Description As an owner of a Pitbull mix, I have come across people who hate the breed of my dog. The internet, outside, everywhere. People who spend their time sitting at a computer, writing basically a book on why they hate Pitbulls. 90% of them haven't even seen a real Pitbull up close and personal themselves.

It really makes me wonder, why people who have never even been 3 metres away from a Pitbull, spend their lives saying they are 'monsters' and should be killed. I'm sorry, would you like me to say that about your dog's breed? Or your family? Because my Pit IS my family. And when you threaten him, you're threatening me.

A lot of people have told me, face-to-face, that my dog should be put down. That is a complete slap in the face to me. It drives me crazy when someone tells me that a member of my family deserves to die. And for what? Being born? God did not give him life for it to simply be taken for him. Same with us all.

How is my dog any different from us? Just because the media reports dogs that have bitten people*, why should they die? Do WE not have murderers all over the world? Should WE all be killed because someone took another's life? No.
*(Did you know, there are over 25 other breed that look identical to Pitbulls? So think twice before you hear that a 'Pitbull" has bitten someone.)

After that, you're probably still wondering, "Oh, I still hate them, and they should still all die." Please, go crawl back into your cave, and save your stupid remark for someone else.

About Snoop: Snoop, or Snoopy, is my almost-6-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/English Pointer mix. We rescued him from the Toronto Humane Society when he was 10 months old, in 2006. His estimated birthday is April 17th, 2005. He's a big lazy goofball that loves swimming and going for walks. I hope he'll still be around, so I can take him to university with me.

Agreed. Those "breed standards" were set by people, not by the dogs. And the media sure are not helping.

I was afraid of pitts(still am a little bit) but I didn't/don't hate them. It wasn't till a car repair shop's pitt introduced itself to me that I found not all pitt's are scary, the fellow was quite friendly

If anyone's to hate something it should be the owner who maliciously taught the animal how to badly behave.

I don't blame you! My dog was originally my brothers, and when he got him, I was a bit scared because I heard a lot of stories about what they have done in the past. Then, I took him for a walk, and I felt like I knew him my whole life. He's now like the jelly to my peanut butter- wait... he'd just eat my peanut butter!~ Oh well!

Heehee, thanks. Yeah... *cough* I tend to get pissy, even more so when I'm stressed out like I already am. I feel like someone's breathing down my back, waiting for me to make a mistake. And thanks again! He really is, I took this right after I got him out of the bath today, he was licking himself dry

Makes me very sad on how people view not only pitbulls but just about any creature that "does not look adorable enough" or "looks threatening"...and how they mistreat them... they don't know them at all unless they actually get to know them. But most human beings aren't like that, they don't want to care, or they just believe everything in the media that can view them wrongly. There are many bothering issues with the situation between humans and their ways towards animals. Majority of humans are cruel, but of course not all view animals that way-it all depends.

I like the picture of your dog, he is a beautiful dog, the tongue sticking out in this shot makes him seem like he's giving the raspberry, lol.

Exactly! If people would stop wasting so much time cooped up, on the interent, x-box, so on, and actually went outside and WANT to get to know them, the world would be so different. That's why I respond with, "Before you judge my dog, get to know him first. After you know him as much as I do, feel free to make any comments. I'm sure they'll be drastically different from the one that just came out of your mouth."

A small dog, I assume? Yep, you don't know how many people will pick up their little dogs when I walk by with Snoop. Makes me want to slap 'em. The worst Snoop would do would be that he humps them.

Yes, a small dog.

And my dog is female, spayed, and has never attacked or bitten ANYONE. She is the sweetest thing, and she is down right a COWARD. XD

Yeah, my dog is neutered too, and would and never has attacked anyone ('cept with kissed and humps ). And my dog is a big baby. Took me an hour to try to get him in the tub today. Almost broke my back trying! He finally settled after I threw in what looked like a pound of chicken.

You're lucky! I've only ever had 3 dogs, and technically the third was one of my brother's friends dog, but she was with us so much I've always felt like she was mine in a way. All three of them are in the Bullie family, the first being a Staffie, the other a purebred Pit, and the one I have now, an almost purebred Pit. Jade, my brother's friends dog, as mentioned above, was actually euthanized a few years ago, and the Staffie I had when I was little was too. Since all the dogs I've loved in the past have been euthinized, it scares me that Snoop will be too.

I've had lots of dogs from Wire Hair Fox Terriers and Jack Russells to Great Pyrenees and Rottweilers ..I haven't ever had a dog put down..that I remember..I don't see a reason to put any dog down unless that particular dog did something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jinnxx In reply to Cargbrock [2011-03-03 01:09:00 +0000 UTC]

Ahh yes, Rottweilers get a lot of haters too, since a lot of people tend to train them as guard dogs. It really does upset me when anyone judges ANY breed of dog, just because they hear something on the news. I agree with you though, a dog should only be put down if it's old, sick or has done something really, really bad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cargbrock In reply to Jinnxx [2011-03-03 01:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes and not each dog of that breed is as people say they are. The only ones that have done anything wrong were trained to be that way, abused, neglected, or they were just scared.

Jinnxx In reply to Cargbrock [2011-03-03 01:17:35 +0000 UTC]

It does break my heart to think of ways I've seen dogs and other animals been abused. If I go into Toronto, I always see at least one dog that was abused and left on the street. I don't know how many dogs I've begged my mom to let me bring to the THS. Most of them, sadly, never make it through the night. I remember one, who did and got adopted. She too was a Pit, and is now full recovered and happy. Imagine if more people cared about abused animals. The world truly would be a better place.

Cargbrock In reply to Jinnxx [2011-03-03 01:20:20 +0000 UTC]

It would and I LOVE mutts. They always seem to be the sweetest, but I feel like people should stop aimlessly breeding their dogs JUST to sell puppies and make money. Most of them just end up on the street. It would be better if people kept their dogs inside or in a fence instead of letting them just walk around. And I hate when people chain up their dogs. It makes the dog restricted and unable to protect itself.

Jinnxx In reply to Cargbrock [2011-03-03 01:23:17 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree. My dog is both neutered (since Pits are banned in Ontario, he has to be >.>) and well, since we live in an apartment, have to take him out for more walks and longer ones. We have a forest and huge field outside, so we let him run around and he never wants to come back We have to go, "Bye, Snoopy!" And start walking away so he'll come back. He's pretty much like a 4 year old kid.

Cargbrock In reply to Jinnxx [2011-03-03 01:27:07 +0000 UTC]

All of our dogs are always spayed and neutered. I live way out in the country and we keep my dogs in a fence, but when they get out you have to do that to my dog, if you chase him he just keeps running but if you walk away he gives upp and comes back home

Jinnxx In reply to Cargbrock [2011-03-03 01:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they like to play around like that Then they feel sad if you walk away and think, "Wait for me! Wait for me!" And then they knock you over, face-first, usually into a foot of snow. In my case, anyways.

My dog looks like a pitbull and she's really a border collie with short fur. When people see her, they instantly stereotype her and become scared. It makes me so angry, and I could see why it would upset you as well. :/

Given the fact that I live in a large apartment, with 3 other surrounding apartments, I get at least 5 comments per day about my dog. It makes me want to throw whatever is nearest at them, then laugh at them. As mean as it sounds, I've been hearing the same things and been given the same looks all from day one on that first victory walk with my dog around the block.

Because, my friend, a lot of humans tend to be douchebags these days. Sadly. And I do tend to over-react or get defensive when someone says something about my dog or Pitbulls. After 5 years of listening to it, it's become a reflex.
