told me that Pikachu was supposed to have a stage 2 evolution named Gorochu, as revealed in a recent interview with Atsuko Nishida and Ken Sugimori. It was scrapped for game balance issues. Though I could see it being brought back as an alternate form of Raichu, like some kind of regional variant.
