Description Anzu, the lion-headed eagle, was associated with the god Ningirsu in ancient Sumer. Ningirsu, I believe, was a god of rain, irrigation, and fertility -- a lot of agricultural stuff.

I thought the idea of a lion-headed eagle was wicked cool, anyways, and ever since a project I did in second year of the design program I've loved ancient Sumerian and Akkadian stuff. I like how this came out, but any concrit or suggestions you might have to make it even better would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hm... any concrit or suggestions you might have to make it even better would be GREATLY appreciated?..

I want to praise you and this excellent art about the god Ninurta-Ningirsu and the bird Anzu, which you beautifully drew! I'm delighted with your art! Really, fantastic work! Bravo!..

Tell me, please: do you like Ancient Mesopotamia, Sumerian and Akkadian mythology, Dingirs, Anunnaki, ufology and books by Zecharia Sitchin?..

I'm not just interested in all of this ... I literally breathe this! For me it is much more than just a hobby. This is my life!

I have long and consistently looking around the Internet for friends and like-minded people who share my interest in the Mesopotamian and its gods. I - researcher Dingir civilization, the Anunnaki. This is the first year I have been studying the manners and habits of these creatures, picking them about the Old wherever possible. Oh, and make your own conclusions based on what he heard and read ... (sincerely I hope that the right)

And creativity (poetry, prose and drawings), and 90% is dedicated to them is - immortal aliens from Nibiru system, which the Sumerians and the Semites worshiped as gods.

I read books of Zecharia Sitchin. I love aliens, Anunnaki and Ancient Mesopotamia very much.

Please, look my arts of Sumerian and Akkadian mythology!

You managed to portray the god Ninurta very well here! Therefore, first of all, I bring to your attention my own portrait of his god. Ninurta is depicted here, along with the Russian professor-sumerologist V.V. Emelyanov. I created a satire in the genre of slash about their love relationship. I pictured how Ninurta fell in love with Emelyanov, appointed him his priestess-entum and performed a ritual of sacred marriage with him. Ninurta and sumerologist V.V. Emeljanov - love:

This is really beautiful! The colors are gorgeous, and so is the lighting -- I love how it looks like the eagle's head is glowing.

Consider the Anzu in its original form. Studying the ancient look of what Anzu looks like, helps with determining details you want for the Anzu you drew today. And not just Anzu, the way people looked and stand. There are key perspectives that are brought to light when studying the specific look of scenes depicted on tablets.

Sample link, goes to an Anzu tablet from Mesopotamia.

Otherwise, the colors chosen for this are amazing. I very much like the man in front. He's drawn so well, I would be careful with the clothing folds across his chest. It looks a bit flat. I love the lion head though, thats five stars.

I did research; you should see the mountains of research I did! I think the books I took out of the library weighed more than me. What I found was that Anzu was represented in any number of ways, some more gryphon-like, some more eagle-like, and so I took the elements that worked for my composition and chose to use those. The talisman the guy is swinging? That's an actual artifact, albeit the real thing being made of lapis as well as gold. That, and statues more like that, where what I based this representation of Anzu off of.

I also wasn't necessarily going for the kind of cultural verisimilitude that meant I copy their art style as well (of which things like posture and pose are a part), though I borrowed or paid homage to a few things here and there. What I was focusing on in this piece was the energy and the lines of the costume. The fellas were snappy dressers, after all! I appreciate your attention to historical detail, but in this case I was focusing on different details than you suggest.

Oh fun, I like mesopotamian tablets too. I think I find you piece so modern probably because of the wing position Anzu is in. Its not common to do such a complex 3D representation of a bird like that though I think your human is spot on.

Speaking of Lapis and Gold, it would be pretty cool to see a gold leaf/foil art print of this one day. Very shiny.

I'm always highly impressed when artists take time to research the history of what they produce. I praise your efforts and also your use of a public library, they need support too. Even if the books smell like dust.

I really like the way that you've painted his arms. There are some really nice colours and textures in there!

A couple of things: would a bit more hair running parallel with his right shoulder (in a curve that follows that shoulder) help to frame him a little better? And/or some of the hair that's already behind him whipping (like, a strand or two at most) a little by his armpit help to give it some more motion on that side?

What kind of person is this under the awesome beard of powers? If this is a Man™, perhaps giving him some arm hair (and armPIT hair! XD) would add to that. Is the beard natural? (He's missing a mouth, in that case!

The linework that shades just under his skirt would benefit from some more consideration; right now it looks pretty scratchy compared to everything else; is it a fringe? Maybe painting on top of that with the fabric colours of the fringe would make it more clear.

I have no qualms with the lioneagle, though painting over some of the linework that is running counter the final product in the 'wrist' area would probably help to make it more cohesive! The face looks great! I love the floofy hair style!

I really like the gold look you've added to the dude's coat pattern. It really looks reflective, good work!

The necklace/idol looks fantastic, too. I really like the details in the chain. That whole thing is pretty rad!

You bring up good points! He has no mouth, it's sad but true, he cannot speak... actually that was a little detail homage to how they represented themselves in art. Lots of beard, not much mouth. Is it too weird? Should I change it?

Armpit hair though... would be a damn good idea. XDD Hahaha, I always forget about body hair. All my references are so denuded.

The fringe and extra hair I will try. The lineart in the wrist -- oh snap, I edited out a lot of contrary linework but forgot that bit, thanks for noticing it!

Oh, thank you! I'm lucky to have a teacher for this class that tells me wonderful things like "don't worry too much about where the light is coming from, just make it do what you need it to do!"

Hahaha, I suppose to put it into perspective, this WAS after three years of hard work in figuring out how to do it right... so we could break the rules and do it wrong-but-better now!

There is a place for everything, and though the 'rules' of art make us better, art itself is more prominent in breaking said rules. x3
