Description Photoshop painting. This illustration was inspired by the amazing science fiction novel series "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons. The story takes place a thousand years in the future when mankind has colonized hundreds of worlds. A faction of the human race, known as the Ousters, broke away from the humans and evolved separately. The Ousters built living, organic space stations and lived in zero gravity. Because of this they evolved very tall and lean bodies and they also bioengineered themselves to be equipped with wings. These wings captured solar power and allowed the Ousters to fly through space. Aenea is a prophet who travels on many adventures throughout the galaxy and befriends the Ousters. Thanks for viewing and comments are welcome!

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, please use my art for Hyperion Cantos wiki. I didn't know there was such a site. I just checked it out and plan to return to read more later. I've read the series twice and could easily read it again. The Ouster Angels are how I visualized them and not necessarily exactly how they are described in the books. Thanks Joe! Yes your Ouster Angels are of a different interpretation but I just read a part in the Orphans of the Helix in which they have their wings retracted and it sounds just like your depiction!

I just adopted the Hyperion Cantos Wiki as admin, and been working really hard to make it look good and be organized. Working on creating a couple hundred of articles that need to be done. It didn't have any theme at all, and I just completely themed it and created the front page as it. Check it out!

I checked out the wiki site-nice! sooo much info on the books. I'm inspired to create more Hyperion fan art. I'm thinking of depicting one of the many worlds in the story. There's just so much to choose from! Thanks again for featuring my art on the site. Joe K.

Thanks! I read the Hyperion series twice. I tried to read Olympos but just could'nt get into it. But hyperion=best Sci Fi ever!

Thank you! I painted free hand in photoshop with a wocem tablet. I did use some photo textures for the branches.

Yeah.. ousters had bigger wings in the books..just hard to illustrate that. Thanks for your comments

But they're also entirely silver and they have no mouth. And no armor, their armor is their skin (for the mutated ones). Just sayin' ^^

There was talk of making a movie. I don't think it would translate well to the big screen...too complicated. Maybe a series like Game of Thrones.
