Kisaiya picked the lock without difficulty, pushed the door open and looked around. A square room, a sort of hallway. No movement whatsoever, and the only sounds came from an improbable clockwork that occupied part of the left wall. In addition to the noise of the cogs, there was the clatter of flaps and also hissing noises, like the breath of panting beasts. She turned to the others.

"Do you hear that? What's that noise?"

Carandas made a careless gesture with her hand.

"Steam pipes under pressure. In itself, nothing dangerous."

"All right then," nodded Kizaiya as she silently entered the room. But no sooner had she taken a step than two huge figures began to move with mechanical sounds. She let out a cry of panic. They had been so still in the dark corners on either side of the door that she hadn't even spotted them.

"Guardian golems!" Carandas shouted. "Run Kitz, run! Forward ! Distract them, I'll take care of them !"

Despite her confidence in Carandas' magic, she had to summon all her courage to launch herself forward. She easily escaped the first golem. The creatures were slow, but seemed extraordinarily powerful, and had swords even bigger than themselves.

She passed the first one, which turned towards Lyrio and Mirixiana who had just entered the room. Carandas took the opportunity to slip in behind it. But the second one blocked her path. She bent her course, but the room was too narrow. From the corner of her eye she saw him cock his weapon, and the monstrous sword that would cut her in two. She could barely make out the magician's incantation, thought that she did not want to die, that she was too young.

Then a beam of force shot out of Carandas' hand, inflicting enough damage on the golem for her to escape
