Liam looked around. The fight was over. A few buildings were still burning, but already settlers were all around, fighting the fires. Others were rushing around, guided by the groans of the wounded. With a heavy heart, he saw a woman prostrated beside the body of a man. Her husband? Her brother? He looked away and, followed by his companions, moved towards the centre of the village. The masts of the Blue Nixie were protruding from the rooftops. The ship was intact. The pirates had decided to plunder the village first. Probably to seize the ship afterwards rather than leave on the barely floating wreckage that had led them to Farshore. But the important thing was that it was there. It had arrived safely, and had not been wrecked like the Sea Wyvern. So there was hope that Lavinia was there too. It would be too awful if she had succumbed to the pirates' blows, having survived the senseless crossing from Sasserine.
He was about to inquire of the inhabitants present, when a troop entered the small square from the opposite direction. He recognized them immediately. The Jade Ravens. And at their head, Lavinia, rapier in hand and covered in blood. She had seen them too, and quickened her pace towards them with a smile. Or was it towards him, and was the smile meant for him? There was no need to be deluded. But he felt happy to see her again.
As for Fira, she spotted Zan Oldavin with a grimace, and clenched her teeth when she saw the lustful smile painted on the half-elven's face as his gaze glided over Kyalani's curves. It had to be said that the few Olman clothes didn't hide much of the magician's anatomy. And she wasn't even aware of it. She was all smiles as she watched Lavinia approach. Right at Liam, of course.
And no-one noticed the way Llamae, the Jade Ravens' magician, watched Liam's younger brother Uthred...
