Description

"Through all the shallow rifts, I had to wade"

Late night painting last night, thinking about how bad I just want to travel the world.

Wonderful painting, as always!
I can definitely see you inching closer to a nice median between your own thing and your influences.

Looks like you're improving! Great movement, and of course texture in this.  Awh, travel the world!  Maybe not now, but do it before you get old!  I'm pretty sure if you appreciate the things you already love, you'll be traveling for sure.  Kinda makes me think about how lucky I am to travel a lot ;/ I wish I appreciated traveling as much as you probably would.  If you can't travel now, I would just say to splurge a bit on cirque du soleil tickets, or any circus.  Although you may not be into that stuff, the patterns and themes, and stories can be inspiring.  Maybe when you come to Canada I can give you a tour!  ;D

Oh jeez thank you!

I definitely would like to do some real traveling soon. As I mentioned in a comment above I'm working on kickstarter to do the pilgrimage of Shikoku and maybe try to create a visual journal book or graphic novel about it (I'm still debating which) in about a year or so which would be fantastic if that would somehow work out. I used to do a lot of traveling in the country as a kid since my mom travels for work but as far as getting out I pretty much only went to Canada a lot since I literally lived next to a bridge across, my dad even works on the bridge haha! Also ooh Cirque du Soliel! I wanted to go see them in Vegas forever ago but it fell through, I would totally be interested in a show here - I'll have to look that up!

Canada is a really cool place too and I'd love to explore a bit more, when I was young we pretty much only went to Toronto so it wasn't very far in and I'd love to see the western parts like Vancouver since I don't live all that far from it!

Hopefully the kickstarter can start soon!!  LOL I live in Toronto, or around that area.  Idk if you wan't to visit it again LOL.  Vancouver is full of hipsters but the weather is really nice LOL.  People are really nice too. If you really want to see the cirque, I think they travel in the US too.  I feel like you're in NY or something.  I think you can see the cirque in the US too, but they're having a show in Toronto in August, so idk if you want to look into that.  Hope you get your kickstarter up soon!

Oh wow, yeah that's the only section I've really been to since I grew up in Michigan which is sort of close.

I don't mind the hipsters, I live in Portland Oregon which is sort of the hipster mecca essentially anyway but there's a big art culture there which I would love to see.

I know Cirque comes to Portland pretty often so I'll have to check that out. I never have been to New York before though and that's another place I would love to go haha!

I will see about the kickstarter, there's a lot of input I need to get from communities first and I need to do a ton more research @_@

This is really gorgeous. You should go travel.
I made the crazy decision to just go off and travel for a year and a half. Best decision of my life and I will never forget it.

Haha I wish I could, I barely have money for rent each month though let alone anything like that. I'm thinking of doing a kickstarter in a year or so for the Shikoku pilgrimage and I'll make like a graphic novel or art-book or something out of the trip maybe, if that could happen I would be the happiest ever!

Where did you get to travel to? It sounds like it was a super rad trip!

That is such a fantastic idea for a kickstarter.
I guess it was easier for me cuz I reached a sort of 'limbo' stage in life. I went around the pyrenees mountains in spain and france (that was expensive!). Then I went to New Zealand for a year on a working holiday visa. I don't know what country you are in, but if you're american then it's free for the visa. It was honestly so amazing! I lived rough out of a van and worked in a hostel when money ran low, but the experiences are so worth it! I think everyone should travel outside their comfort zone atleast once in their life, lol but understandably a year is a long time!
Although I missed my tablet so much I think being away also helped in my art too. You have a lot of time to think and see things in a new perspective. haha I'd love to see what you could paint on your travels!

Oh wow that sounds amazing. I've always wanted to go to New Zealand super bad but it's just so daunting to just go out and do things like that. I am American and that's super good to know! I definitely think travel would help artistically and especially a journey like that one I'm planning would be something that would effect me for the rest of my life and stuff. It would be very cool to do for sure, just hopefully I can make it work haha!

What I did was buy an open ended plane ticket. so if the worst thing happened and I ran out of money or whatever then I could go online and change my ticket. I think I had it originally booked for 5 months and was having a blast so I pushed my ticket back so I was there for a year in the end. That's pretty handy to know you have as back up. Something that might reassure you is there are ssssooo many other backpackers there! You're guaranteed to meet some awesome people in the same boat as you.
