Description
An approximated 1:6 scale level 4 Moonfire sword from the Playstation 2 game Drakengard, published by Square-Enix. I wanted to try making a sword with a translucent blade, and I loved how the Moonfire looked. I don't know if anyone else has made model Drakengard weapons.

The game's lore says the sword was made of granite. Mine's made of a bendy school ruler and some X-Men trading cards.

----====Construction Notes====----

For the blade, I enlarged a drawing of the sword from game art and worked from there. I used a $0.76 ruler from a local drugstore for the blade, and used some useless cards for the guard and pommel. The grip is a bamboo stick.

The hilt is composed of several laminates, of which the core bears notches to accept the grip and blade. These get hidden by successive layers to provide a clean yet strong part. These features can be seen in the top right image.

The raised detail was done by stenciling out the raised parts onto 110lb cardstock, the gluing them onto the card. It was faster than carving all the depressions. The top claw-like element was carved out with an X-acto knife.

Sword blade measures 18.5 cm long, and the overall length is 28cm. The treasure chest in the photo is from the World of Warcraft TCG dice set, and has a pile of LEGO gold parts inside, if you're curious on where that came from. It's rather hard to make a sword look interesting in a photo all by itself.
