I understood with a little help of Google Translate (and if not, I have a few Polish friends who could probably have translated)
Initially when I tried learning it I constantly confused it with Russian (which I learned for six years in school). Took a while to shake the habit of trying to write everything in Cyrillic.

polish is not similar to russian at all, even phonetically it's different. I like how Cyrillic looks like but unfortunately I'm not able to understand a singe word

Oh, both are Slavic languages, just from different branches of Slavic languages. Maybe the similarities are more apparent to an outsider

And I can still read Cyrillic, but I understand very little Russian. The joys of not using a language in ages. So by now I merely speak German and English.
