This is a very good, basic tutorial.  It is also nice and clear.  I hope you do some more.

Thanks!  Magnets are a bane to me, so this will be useful as well!

Oh good! There's a lot you can do with magnets but for basic stuff they don't need to be complicated. They just take a little time.

Nice tut... I have some question about conforming. I've modeled a new cloth in max and then I've imported to Poser. I've applied character rigs to the cloth. So far there is no problem...

when my rigged cloth moves, it has some polygon issues. I've tried to fix poly distortions with joint editor but it worked just a little.

Maybe I couldn't use the joint editor effectively I dont know. What can I do? Please help me about conforming a new cloth?

PS. I've modeled cloth exactly suited to my character.  I've imported the character to max and then I've modeled.

PS. I've used autogroup for cloth and UV map is automatic too...

I'm sorry, I don't think I can be of much help. The few times I've modelled clothes I've used dynamic cloth which is a lot easier; I have no experience with making conforming clothing, only using it. You're probably better off asking on the forums of runtimedna.com or renderosity.com - good luck!

wow nice tutorial xD i;m new to poser and i just really want models or figures for any game models in resident evil and final fantasy it's hard to make one on your own >.< can u help me lol

joannastar In reply to shinoda908 [2012-04-25 10:37:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, poser is possibly not the ideal software to use for game models, because poser doesn't allow you to make new models, only to do things with existing ones. I think you might be better off with modelling software eg. blender which is free. You should talk to ^WillowXD , who is the community volunteer for game developement art. She should be able to point you towards some resources and groups to teach you what you need to know

It doesn't seem complicated to me anymore, because I'm used to it. But I guess there is a pretty steep learning curve these days as the program has grown in complexity ^^

May I add my 2-cents information?
If you look at this picture: [link] you'll see 4 variations of Terai Yuki. The left-most is wearing a top that has been designed for Victoria 4.
Instead of conforming, I just parented the top to the chest of TY. Than, after some adjustments, the top follow TY's moves.

All in all, good tutorials such as yours are *always* good things for new comers in Poser's world.

Excellent tutorial! I wish I would have found something like this when I started using Poser around 6-7yrs ago. I very nearly gave up on Poser because I was posing the character and then posing the clothes to look like they were being worn by the character...all manually. lol. Yeah...pays to read the freakin' manual (or really good tutorials like this one. )

Congratulations on the DD! You definitely deserve it.

ah you seem to know heaps about poser and this is really helpful to me as i just brought the program,
but even when i click to conform, the clothes are infront of the figure not on it :/
help pleeeeease T^T

joannastar In reply to pencil-what-pencil [2010-12-04 18:31:11 +0000 UTC]

If you want you can note me with a screenshot and I will see if I can work out what is wrong. But off the top of my head - make sure that you're using conforming clothing, from the figures library, NOT dynamic clothing from the props library, and that the clothing is the right one for the figure. Second thing is to make sure you have the clothing selected when you choose to conform - on some occasions I have tried to conform victoria to herself, which didn't work so well

okiedokie i'll do that ^^
thankyou so much for the help, i've been so frustrated with it and it was kinda expensive so i didn't want to just never use it >.<
haha that's one of the first things i did except i had someone called sam i think
so does clothing have to be the clothing that goes to the figure?
is there a way to change who the clothing goes to?
