I was commissioned by an anthropologist friend of mine who works in maternal health for the University of British Columbia - she lived with a number of pregnant women in Africa, documenting their lives and taking note of their diets. She provided me photos she took and asked me to turn them into an illustration to accompany her written stories for each woman (which I unfortunately can't post - at least, not yet) - this is Bendera of Kenya, 27 years old, 9 months pregnant, and second wife to a man who has over a dozen mouths to feed across 3 households. Her life's dream would be to become a maid in Saudi Arabia. 3KSH, by the way, is about 2 cents USD.
