Thanks I read where this could be the most photographed lake in the world. There are many busloads a day visit. Maybe 1 every hour or even 2 buses maybe.

I want to go north someday. There is so much there that has barely been seen by humans. True wilderness and tundra. Nothing but Eskimos, seals and polar bears

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Morphine-Cloud In reply to Joe-Lynn-Design [2011-04-19 18:33:23 +0000 UTC]

I imagine that, I'd love going there too, it might be awesome....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to Morphine-Cloud [2011-04-19 18:48:57 +0000 UTC]

It would be and some people there have never developed and are still wild. Its very cold though. I lived in one of the largest cities in Canada once, Edmonton [link] If you scroll out you can see its not very far north but there are no cities much past there. There is a town there 4 hours north called Fort MacMurray. I have a half sister there but I don't know her and we lost touch but its common to be as cold as -55C there and the town is only there as a home for the oilfield workers. They even go a few more hours north but when it gets below -44C steal will shatter like glass so all work stops outside and you don't shut off your vehecle without power for your block heater or it will never start again.
You may have heard of the iceroad truckers [link] They can only go in winter and its a very dangerous job. Sometimes the trucks go through the ice and even lives are lost. They take supplies to the oilfields and its the only way to get them there. They go non stop for only a couple months. They're paid very well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Morphine-Cloud In reply to Joe-Lynn-Design [2011-04-19 18:57:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I can see that...
-55C is awesome uh, I love cold... I imagine how it can be for them indeed ! And in fact it's like in Russia in Winter...
I heard of that yep, I've been told it was very dangerous indeed... they must be very careful on the road !

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to Morphine-Cloud [2011-04-19 19:06:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes I've heard Russia is cold too. There isn't much wind and it doesn't feel too cold at first but it will in a few minutes.
Yes the iceroad trucks will freeze up too and there are a lot of reasons for the trucks to break down. Peopple are too busy to stop to help and it can be bad at times. They have a TV series and its the real thing. They show trucks going through the ice sometimes. It can be very scary.
Also up there they have the crab boats. The season opens for 14 days a year and millions are made. At least 1 life is lost on every boat every year. Its the most dangerous job in the world. They have a TV series about that too. [link] I was a fisherman in the Atlantic for 30 years and I always wanted to go there for a season. They make a good year pay in 14 days.

Morphine-Cloud In reply to Joe-Lynn-Design [2011-04-19 20:34:23 +0000 UTC]

They're al alone on the roads, not funny... ok.. I wouldn't like to do this job...
I didn't know that ! It seems very strange to me lol.. thanks for the link.. well maybe you'll go there one day...
