It looks pretty impressive with the vast amounts of water, I hope it hasn't caused too much damage.

I don't think it receded yet but I think mainly the damage is all the rockwork in the riverwalk.
Its got a lot of work into it and the big flood 2 years ago really damaged it bad. Won't really see this time till the water gets lower

Thanks man
No its pretty much controlled I think. Its typical but a late spring this year.
We had record snowfall. 50% more than usual but the slow melt saved from the big flood that was expected.

Is that from all the overburden of snowfall you had last winter?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2013-06-10 18:08:46 +0000 UTC]

Yes but it was a very slow melt so not bad at all. It would be twice this had it warmed up like usual springs. We had 50% more snow than average here and average is lots
This is controlled. I don't think there has been any damage to speak of. Its typical.

No damage is what I like to hear then, that`s good as it looks fairly severe here^^^

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2013-06-10 18:20:43 +0000 UTC]

It will do some damage to this rock work of course but that would be considered not much damage since no one has to pay for it

Reminds me of the Mississippi down at the Riverfront in St Louis. Nice capture! How much rain have you gotten there?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to Annezon [2013-06-10 10:49:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh thanks Anne!
We didn't get much rain. This is the spring freshet from all the snow and ice melting after the winter.
We were actually lucky cause there was 50% more snow this past winter than average but its been a very slow melt so there's been minimal flooding. This is actually controlled but it does do damage to the beautiful rock work along the river trail.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Annezon In reply to Joe-Lynn-Design [2013-06-10 22:32:22 +0000 UTC]

I've never even heard of a freshet I'm glad that the flooding wasn't really bad. So many people have had problems with flooding this year

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Joe-Lynn-Design In reply to Annezon [2013-06-11 00:59:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh sorry Anne. Kind of using my fisherman talk on you. We generally use the word for the spring thaw but its also a rise in the rivers from a big rain. [link]

Yes there's been a lot of flooding all over. We expected the worst ever but got really lucky cause its been such a cold spring that most of the snow evaporated instead of melting
We got 50% more than average and average is a lot
Then we started getting huge snow storms late down in North Dakota which feeds into our river which runs North. But in the end it was pretty painless I think for most.
They control the level when they can like right now. They could lower it fast I think if they open the dam a bit.

Annezon In reply to Joe-Lynn-Design [2013-06-11 08:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Freshet...I'll have to remember that I'll use that word next spring when the rivers start coming up from all the snow and ice melt. I'll impress the socks off of them Of course, you don't here that much around here, so they won't know what I'm talking about.

It's been raining a lot here as well. Probably not on the same magnitude, but enough to cause all kinds of issues. Last year we had a drought so that may be our saving grace. The ground was really dry coming in to spring. And I have to say this is one of the prettiest springs we've had in ages. Never seen the flowers blooming like they have this year
