Description
Tommy Petersen is one of two primary player characters I have for the TV Tropes roleplay We Are All Pokémon Trainers. This portrait was digitally inked, much like Upton's portrait, and is part of my series of test runs of my new tablet. Learn more about him here . Long story short, when I signed up, a friend of mine was running the test to get me in. He made a gag about there being a J. Jonah type boss for my first primary who was obsessed with some costumed do-gooder named Arachna-Guy. I obliged to make him a thing.
ART NOTES
This is one of the first times I've attempted to correct the proportions of the character. While inking, I noticed the jarring size of the head compared with the body, so I decided to group the head line art and play around with its size once the rest of the body was done. A noticeable trend in my characters is an oversized head (to the point that it sometimes wouldn't seem right if it wasn't so). It's not an issue; it's a product of my prior style. This one, I decided to play around more natural-ish proportions (neck might still be too long and thin, but too wide a neck in my style makes the characters look chunky).
If the bio and the name didn't give it away, he's based heavily on MCU Peter Parker, the key difference is that he actually finished college, so he's closer to the Raimiverse Peter in age (and in occupation, a mashup of most Peter Parkers and Dr. Octopus in Spider-Verse; he hosts a kid's science show). I based his appearance heavily on Tom Holland's Peter Parker, but due to stylistic limitations and my own limitations as an artist, the gradual divergence of the subject to its reference sort of happened. Which is probably for the best, since he becomes recognizably a different character and not just Peter Parker. A key difference is that unlike the wavy, clumpy hair of his template, Tommy has straight, fine hair, which gives it a spiky appearance even if they utilize the same style of side part. I tend to draw fine hair a lot easier since I prefer the aesthetic of pointy hair.
It took awhile for me to get the face right.
