Looks alot like how he looks in the in-game sprites, and "Super Mario Advance" artwork. 
One of my favorite SMB-series bosses personally. Shame they don't bring back the SMB2/Doki Doki Panic enemies very often.

Yeah, shame. Even the Shy Guys & Snifits don't seem to appear as often in the Mario series as they used to.
Bob-ombs & Pokey cactuses are still quite common though.
