May I ask about some techniques in using the Crow Quill Pen? I have just recently bought one, and I'm quickly realizing it is nothing like using a ballpoint-- there certainly is a technique that is involved with good artwork using such a pen. I find that the pen catches on the paper I use, and also scratches it to death (which may just be the fault of the sketch paper, I have yet to experiment) and at times refuses to make much of a line at all.
Maybe you could help? This is quite an impressive piece of artwork.

I'm afraid I don't really have much of a technique to recommend. This was just about the only time I used Crow Quill to any great degree, and to be honest I just tried to make scratching the paper look good. The fact that the drawing turned out well shouldn't imply that I used the pen in the way it was meant to be used, because I didn't. I basically handled it like a stubborn, hard Micron.
Then again, if I had stuck with it, who knows? As they say, go with what works. But no, I never quite got the hang of the Crow Quill.

Joe... what is it about quill/dip pens? I used a dip pen once... just once... and my first thing I did with it was way way way above the level I even dreamed of (still nothing compared to pros, mind you... but it just laughed at a lot of my pencil sketches). I don't get how it is that first times with everything else... oil pastels, watercolor, chalk, etc. are all rather meager. But ink just does amazing stuff.
