Man, you've got one heckuva following and rightly so. Nice perspective and I'm comfy with the colors too. Now you say this is a more simplified version but in general...how long did it take to make this piece? I assume the answer to the classic "How d'you get SOO good?" is somethig along the lines of "Lots and lots of practice, gallons of kool aid, and doritos aplenty"

You're right about the doritos, cool ranch of course, the nacho is soooo passé. Substitute kool-aid with moxie and/or coffee. And I just yelled and spit at my keyboard for years, and THAT'S how I got soo good. And I pose in front of the mirror a lot too. And my wife cleans my ears for me.
For real tho, unfortunately, yeah the super-boring answer is practice... If you start at the beginning of my gallery and look to the end, you can see the changes. You just pick more and more shit up as you go.

how do you do that?! I tried to make a vector recently but it just seems impossible to me..

It's a build-up process. You start with the main outlines of the features (face, eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) lay down the basic foundational colors, and build up the lighting and shading with shapes, and adjust colors accordingly. There are plenty of techniques and ways to do it, but that's how I usually start out.
