Description Throughout the branches of the Red Army, they used the same uniform design however with different colours to distinguish between Ground Forces (Khaki), Armoured Forces (Grey) and Air Forces (Blue).

On the left is a a Senior Lieutenant in a M41 Shinel (Overcoat) was originally introduced by the order of People's Commissar of Defence of the USSR № 005 from February 1, 1941. He is also wearing Armoured branch insignia which was coloured black with crimson red piping and had a small pin of a tank similar to BT Tank series to designate the armoured branch of service.

On the right is a Senior Lieutenant in a M35 Gimnastyorka, this uniform was introduced by the order of People's Commissar of Defence of the USSR № 176 of December 3rd, 1935. This specific uniform was issued pre-war and continued in use until 1943, when a new uniform style replaced it, although when the M43 was introduced the distinguishing grey colour was dropped and armoured troops were issued with the same standard shades of Khaki like the army.
