Description Small watercolor paintings based on screencaps from the Doctor Who episode School Reunion (Season 2, episode 3).

Typically the kind of episode that becomes better when you watch it a second time. It's one of my favorite ones now.

2-Oh god, that look on Ten's face. He's like "Say something bad about K9 and I will END YOU."
3-"Come on, you. Home. We've got work to do." "Affirmative!"

This was the episode that got me into Doctor Who. It was the perfect combination of the past and the present!

I wasn't convinced at first, and there's still a couple of things I dislike in it, but it really is one of the best episodes of that season.

I love how Doctor Who can almost immediately build up its mythos and history. You can start just about anywhere, and even if you don't understand exactly what's going on, you can still get the sense that the series has had a long past.

I started in this season, but right away I could feel the history of the Doctor's world. This was an episode that really hit that feeling home for me.

Yes! The mythos looks so vast and kinda intimidating at first (one of the reasons I didn't want to delve into the series at first), but you still can understand most of the stories without knowing past ones.

I really do love K9. I'll probably watch Tom Baker's era and the Sarah-Jane Adventures just for him.

(By the way, I saw the episodes Midnight and . I was quite pleased with Midnight - creepy and possibly my very favorite Davies episode. I loved the way we never found out what the monster was and how the entire episode was set in one room. It's also ironic that with 900 years of fighting aliens the closest the Doctor comes to being killed is by a family man on holiday. It's the kind of episode that makes you think a bit: who's the real monster?

On the other hand, Turn Left was a disappointment. I felt like it had an interesting premise, and I liked the way Bad Wolf came back, but Rose's return was dispensed with (there was so much more they could have done with her!) and the first thirty minutes or so were nothing but showing how terrible how life would have been if the Doctor died and how we'd all be doomed - necessary, but after a while, the viewers got the picture and it grew tedious. It would have been nice to see a bit more plot. Speaking of plot, it was rather anti-climactic. Again, the entire episode seemed to promise us it was building up to some epic climax we never saw.

Rose's return was dispensed with? ...I'm just going to shut up and wait until you watch the end of the season.

I love everything about Midnight. The acting, the build up, the fact that we'll never know what the creature was and why it was doing that and, as you said, the fact that it really makes you think... also the fact that when faced with a ridiculously small budget because the season ending was so expensive, they decided to make a "bottle episode" (only one set or so) with next to zero special effects and SOMEHOW managed to make it that good. It's haunting and I love it.
Another thing I love about that episode is that it takes everything that the Doctor usually does in that kind of situation and use it to make it worse: not telling anyone his name, trying to take control of everything, talking his way out of danger, his curiosity towards unknown things or creatures...

I've always felt that the episodes that DON'T require flashy CGI aliens and high-tech devices are the better ones, actually. For instance, Blink. The Weeping Angels were actresses painted up and you couldn't tell they were people with makeup on if you weren't really looking.

By the way, I've started showing my dad some of my favorite episodes. I feel so accomplished, turning him into a fanboy.

I did the same with my dad (my mum decided she didn't like it pretty much instantly xD), but he wanted to watch from the beginning, so I tried to make a selection for him and we watch one or two episodes every time I come to visit him. The last one we watched was The Girl in the Fireplace.

My mum isn't a fan of anything sci-fi related unfortunately, but I'm still so grateful to my friend for introducing me to the show.

my Latin teacher makes references quite a lot though.

When we watched it a couple of weeks ago with my father, he was smiling and/or snorting each time K9 was speaking
