Digital darkroom: I adjusted the contrast and used split toning during RAW development to enhance the reflection of the opposite building with the Turkish flag.

Istanbul is truly a colorful city, with stark contrasts on its streets. Here you can see a Muslim woman baking something that could be described as a Turkish pancake. The woman is sitting on a carpet. The scene is warmly lit. It's cosy inside this window... A home-like atmosphere, is it not?

But the fact that this traditional, almost home-like act is being performed inside a glass window to attract tourists into the restaurant is what makes this scene so special. The clash of cultures, the desire to commercialize the tradition, to sensationalize and attach the word "public" to a "homey" situation.

I hope you caught a glimpse of Istanbul here, 'cause this is one of my favorite photographs of the trip.
