Thanks for all the kind words. This is my favorite piece I've ever created.

I based the piece on this passage from Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"

"At this the spirit raised a frightful cry, and shook its chain with such a dismal and appalling noise, that Scrooge held on tight to his chair, to save himself from falling in a swoon. But how much greater was his horror, when the phantom taking off the bandage round its head, as if it were too warm to wear indoors, its lower jaw dropped down upon its breast!"

jeez.

i can just hear the tortured wail... very expressive work! i love the floating chains and wild hair. the detail is incredible, especially on the cashboxes he is tethered to. many illustrations of Marley i've seen have been very sad and melancholy- this is the most emotionally charged i can recall coming across. it's heartbreaking.

perhaps he looks a bit young- and what of the handkercheif wound around his head? but those are only small details. i really love this piece.
