Description RIP Alan Young (1919-2016)

Even though I never grew up with DuckTales as a kid (though I've recently gotten two tapes related to the show from a local thrift store that I volunteer at), I was familiar enough with the Scrooge McDuck thanks to Mickey's Christmas Carol being a semi-regular tradition in my household as well as having Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas. So like many others, I was bummed to learn that his 4th and primary VA Alan Young (who voiced him from 1974 up until his death) passed away earlier this year as I really can't picture anyone else voicing Scrooge and consider it impressive that Alan was still doing the voice for him well into late 90s for some of the recent Mickey Mouse shorts being shown on Disney Channel and Disney XD.

Alan Young will always be the ideal Scrooge McDuck to me like Wayne Allwine was to Mickey Mouse. It seemed not too long ago I got introduced to Mister Ed thanks to my dad's binge-watching and found he played Wilbur.

He even voiced Scrooge in that DuckTales Remastered game with most of the original voice actor reprising their roles. Even if you can kinda tell he sounds older, it's still dedicated and authentic to hear.

Indeed, whoever's gonna voice him next for when DuckTales is rebooted next year will have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Did you grow up with Mr. Ed through Nick at Nite? Because I have some memories of early Nick at Nite when they would show stuff like Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch.

Pretty much, I hope the new voice will be good.

Actually, no. I never watched Nick as a kid, only reason I knew about the show in the first place was when my Dad recorded a bunch of episodes a couple years ago. Though when it comes to old shows, I particularly like Gilligan's Island mostly for how the characters play off each other.

I hope all the new voices they get for that show are good because from what I've heard none of the actors from the original are in the reboot series.

Most of my knowledge about Gilligan's Island boils down to the countless references to it that I see in other places (the most recent being Alone at Sea when Greg refers to Steven as "Little Buddy").

Oh wow...Poor Terry seems pretty bummed. And I wouldn't blame him.
