I Like this.
As for the Thick outline around a character I have heard it called cell shading the most but I have also heard "Blocking" a character as well. I think they do it so that the characters "Pop" a little off the background.
Glad you got some practice coloring its a good skill to learn.
Coloring is my favorite part of doing manga images as a lot of time you are working off animation stills or covers for reference so you can go a little wild.

Whew, glad to hear that. I had this image sitting there for 3 days worrying about would could be wrong with it.
Interesting to know. Those words seem to explain its use.
I am certainly far away from accomplishing it, and if there is no shading provided, then it is impossible for me to understand how to color it. Although, when it is possible, I do enjoy giving the image some life. I will definitely do more of these in the future.

Coloring and shading is all based on light and where its coming from, most of the time its from the top and to one side or another of the person/thing.
the angle of brightness of an image is a very effective way of setting the mood of the image. I recommend Dynamic Light and Shade by Burne Hogart if you want a run down of it. There are simpler books but its the one I learned off of.
