Description This is my new jib arm. Me and my friend Gabe built it. A jib arm is a device used in film making that moves the camera up and down smoothly. I needed one for a short film that I'm currently working on.
The part on the ground is where the camera bolts on. When you push on the handle in the back the camera raises and the angle doesn't change. it looks straight ahead and doesn't change when you lift it or lower it. Jib arms cost roughly $3000 to buy, roughly $300 to rent for a weekend, and roughly $100 to build. I chose option 3.
Gabe says we should paint it black. I think I just named it Jibby. So now I have The Raminator and Jibby as my film making partners.
It took us roughly 2 days to build. It was totally worth it. We took it for a test spin and the footage we shot looked absolutely amazing. I can't wait to try it out when we are actually shooting.
I thought the angle of this made it look kind of like a monster. Which I really liked. I spent a lot of time working on this for probably 10-15 seconds of a short film. Of course I'll use it in the future, but this is just more proof of how absolutely insane I am.

this is freakin' rad. you did a wonderful job on building this.
my friend Matt is looking for a director to take over a prject he's currently working on (and being paid to do no less). I want to get the two of you together to talk and see if you can work together at all.

interested?
