This is what I started with for

The main character was a little different in appearance and in story. In this draft, Simon had this thing I called "Hypnosis Eye" which he got from his father. His father was a notorious thief who used the Hypnosis Eye to aid him in his crimes. When people look into the Eye, for a while they will see only what they expect to see. Useful if you know how to play with peoples' expectations, but less reliable if you don't know when to use it. This picture shows him running from a pair of officers who thought he was kind of suspicious looking.

The perspective was fun, as was the cartoony feel of everything. In the end I abandoned this one as I couldn't figure out where they actually were; is this an alley? A street? Where's the sidewalk? I could not execute the rest of the background, and I wasn't satisfied with how the officers looked.

Simon's last name is actually pronounced "Joot-shee," and his name as a whole was supposed to be a play on "saiminjutsushi" (hypnotist). I kept his name in the deviation, but dropped the explanation as he no longer had the Hypnosis Eye.

Comparing Simon's faces, I kind of like how this one doesn't look like Hei , but I also like how the other one looks more competent and less weird.
