Jennifer and Alicia Hilliard are Children of the Event, those affected by "The Event", which happened in the summer of 1986. The twin sisters were born exactly 9 months after Earth briefly blinked out of existence. Their mother could not explain their birth, as at the time she learned she was pregnant, she was a virgin. And nobody could explain how, except that it was a side effect of The Event, Jennifer and Alicia were born conjoined twins, despite the fact that they are not only not identical, but Jennifer is white while Alicia is black. Due to the nature of their conjoinment(as well as scientific curiosity, seeing this was the first instance of fraternal twins being born conjoined), they were never surgically separated. However, on the twins' 12th birthday, they discovered something even stranger: the ability to temporarily separate from one another, leaving behind no proof they were ever conjoined, not even a scar. They also discovered that separation carried one other side effect: while separated from one another, they gain superpowers. Jennifer gained the ability to make constructs out of solidified light(her powers also allow her to absorb and store light, and to solidify the light she has stored), while Alicia can surround all or part of herself with an energy field which augments her physical strength by over 125 times normal. Discovering they had superpowers, they decided o become superheroes. They spent their teenage years training, learning to control, harness, and best utilize their powers, as well as learning martial arts, so as not to depend solely on their powers. Once they were ready, they designed costumes(Jennifer's with a strapless top, she uses her bare shoulders to absorb light for her to use in the event she finds herself in darkness) and began their careers.
