and that is Just the Characters. let alone the drive of the story like the prequel back story, and expanded plot.BTW that letter @ the end of KH2, it's been read to the audience already. I'm sure many will wonder about it
I just cant imagine saying "I play Kingdom Hearts" with out knowing who Master Xehanort is. some like the Gamer here must still think he's the man in the portrait back in Hollow Bastion.
it's like watching Star Wars episode 1&2, then jumping to episode 6, and asking "what'd I miss?"
But no worries for anyone who hasn't gone through them (to be honest it was very pricey to play every KH)
the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 and 2.5 will help out a lot, for those who wish to catch up.

I just can't beat Birth by Sleep. I don't know wh- Wait. I suck at leveling up. So now I'm in the Mirage Arena stuck battling over and over just to have myself go and die. I am playing as Ventus. Yes. I know what happens to him. I just don't know... well. I didn't watch the cutscene he... 'dies' in.

I grind in that game with Magnet, Magnara and Magnaga, cast it in the middle of the heap of unversed, then BASH that Mess! you clear out fields in half the time.

I'll be honest, re:coded is the only game I think was the most useless in progression. The really important thing that happened was, well, Mickey remembering the BbS protagonists; kinda like,
"........HEY! I just remembered! There's like, three other keyblade people I totally forgot about and need to save, because, well, I just remembered! Doo doo dooo~ 'nother bottle to Sora. Now just to wait. Again....KH3 can't be that far off now."

yeah the ending is the only forward progression. though I loved the Castle oblivion portion of that game

I remember just going to youtube and looking up at the final boss and ending, as well as the scene with Roxas confronting Sora, and dat mention of Xion.

LOL So, so true...my brother, while he still likes the first game, doesn't like the series since he thinks the spinoffs are all unnecessary and that SE is just milking the series. So when he wanted to see my 3DS and KH3D, he was SO confused about what was going on... XD I had a hell of a hard time trying to explain everything to him.

Is it true though that re:coded isn't really worth playing? I've played BBS, and I'm hoping to play dream drop soon, but I've heard that coded isn't worth it.

Story-wise, there's nothing really new you find out. Gameplay-wise, I think the game is fantastic. The level design is so creative and each world you visit has their own unique gameplay style. (for example, in Traverse Town, you go through this side-scrolling platformer and in Olympus Coliseum, you have a turn-based battle system similar to the Mario & Luigi RPG games)

story-wise, re:coded was said to not be as interesting, but I've played it and I think it helped show more of what happened behind the scenes of our main characters story! c:

Yeah, I totally recommend it~ It really gives a great nostalgia of the original KH, with the characters and stuff- and there's tons of quests and challenges too!

If you are a gamer and love unique and variety of gameplay including side-scrolling, shooting, classic RPG, and traditional KH battle system with a command deck (like in BBS) --- its worth playing
If you love the experience and exchange of dialogue that is kingdom hearts w/ the Disney characters, riku, sora, mickey, Donald, Goofy ---its worth playing
If you play KH to see the progression of the story---It's NOT worth playing
its not In the same league of KH1, KH2, or KH: BBS. but I loved it b/c I'm a gamer and it was one of the fun-est games for the DS I've played. so it really just depends on WHY you play the games, what R U looking for in a KH game that makes it worth buying

I hate it when people think that the other games are spinoffs! While BBS isn't my favorite game I at least researched it to understand the plot of the game better rather than chancing it and not understanding a chunk of the game. I dont understand why people can be so hardheaded about the other games, they add so much meat to the story.

I honestly get so annoyed by people like this. "Oh, I played 1 and 2, but I didn't play the side games. They aren't important anyway. But I'm the best KH fan ever." I can understand if you can't afford some of the hand held games like myself (still saving up for KHDDD), but I never let myself get behind with the plot or KH news.
No matter how many times I tell someone that BbS and KHDDD are NOT side games and that they are in fact, mega important to the plot, some still deny it and insist they can get alng just fine without it.
After so many people were confused from KH1 to KH2 over Namine's existence, I can't imagine how confused they'll be when there's all these new characters and new villains...

I can understand the gamer's shock at finding out that all the KH games have something to do with the story line. While I only have the most recently release KH for 3DS, I've watched many hours of walkthroughs over the interwebs so that I understand what's going on. And reading wiki, LOT'S of wiki.
