Description "Why you always so serious, mom?"

----

I heard you like dem owls? xD

This is an attempt on a more illustrative style.. (rather speedpaint-ish ^^) As I want to work in film industry some day (as an illustrator/concept artist or even director ) I decided to concentrate more on the individual characters and tried to tell a little story with the picture.. I hope I succeeded! ^^ Free to interprete!

Um.....this is excellent. I don't think I can put it in words how excellent it is..and perfect....and beautiful... I love the ice at the stick, but my favorite is the flame in the mother's eyes, it shows pride, and no fear. It's protecting its baby, like all mothers. It's wings are lovely made, this must have taken HOURS! Or days! Or months! I love pictures like this, they show that you're a true artist. Perfect. Wonderful. Gorgouses. Brave. This is my favorite of all of the good artwork I have seen. I love it. It will stay in my favorites FOREVER.

Well...

I think this work went very well.
It is full of lots of details. The snow, the crown and others...
I like how you did the expressions...I can really see their feelings, not for everyone it is easy to draw that we really should know what they're feeling.
I like the forming of the snow, it isn't like just balls, there are lines, balls and other uneven shapes...
It looks as if the owl is the winter. All around her is winter, and it looks like her kinda "power". You did very professional zoom ins and zoom outs. Some of them are sharp some of them are not.
Also i can see, that the owls has terrible and maybe "interesting" experience. I can see two scars crossing her eye, but is OK. I don't know if that is her power of being hardy and strong or is it minus for you, that you didn't "hurt" her. But I think it fits first more...
And we can't see the ground, so she is guarding her "kid" in the high height of who might be there. So he's carrying mum, but SERIOUS as I can see in the name of it.

Sorry for sometimes bad english and not the right explaining.

This is amazing. It's nonpareil.
What I see here is somebody taking something that everybody has drawn at least once and putting a whole new element to it that adds originality to a many-times-drawn-painted-photographed-etc subject. You've made a phoenix of owls. A painting of an owl that rises from the cutesey, majectic, formidable, and many other constantly used ashes by taking her little chick along too.
From a distance you see a formidable great horned owl with glowing eyes and an interesting crown thing going on. Quite mysterious, majestic, and intimidating.
Then you take a closer look and see beside her a darling little owlet with puppy dog eyes, which adds a simply beautiful element.
The scenery is excellent. The strategic blur of the snow and branches makes it appear perfectly windblown. I notice that the icicles have clear spots and blurry spots, indicating snowflakes that have stuck to them. You paid great attention to detail where other artists might not have. You have certainly gone the extra mile.

This, this is just amazing! I love this so much!

The detail in it is beautiful, especially in the mother owl. But I can't leave out the baby owl. A lot people forget to add detail to the smaller things because they can appear unimportant. But I think you spent just as much time on the baby owl's detail as you did on the mother owl's detail. I must point out the icicles on the tree branch, they are beautiful and very well done. The eyes I just can't stop staring at, they are marvelous. And the snow, the snow is a very nice touch and made it seem ten times colder.

However, the mother owl's feet, as wonderfully detailed as they are, seem a little small and not proportional to her body. Unless, that was what you intended.

All in all, I love this very much, and it deserves a spot in my favorites.

Ok, how should we start? XD this is my first critique so pls tell me if I do anything wrong!
First of all, the angle of the picture is super good, it truly expresses the protectiveness of a mother. The baby owl shows a great impression of the one being protected. I love the way the wings kind of surrounds and folds around the baby owl, protecting it from predators.
Very nice details on the mother owl, the stare just freezes everyone it stares at. The way it's hunched over like saying "you mess with my chick, you mess with me" and the story takes place there.

Something you could do to improve:
I suggest trying to draw the talons of the predator like its about to carry away the chick or something because secant see the predator and we donate ow if its truly there or not, then it all depends on opinions, in that case.

You don't have to listen to me... I've only been on deviantArt like for 2-3 weeks, and again if I did something wrong please correct me.

The color choice in the mother owl is magnificent and has impressive shading, and I personally love the energy that flows from the orange eyes, which was a good color since a lot of the colors in the piece are harmonious, this color gives a warm feeling and also stands out a lot. It also gives her a ferocious look. I love how the arms of the mother owl stretch out to protect the baby owl from something like danger, the eyes on the baby are warm and beautiful like the mother owl.

The crown on her head is a smart thing to put, since it represents that she is a mighty beast that she has the power over other beings. The scar that goes over her eye shows that she has been in plenty of fights, and most probably won them all.
The baby owl is beautiful and has a worried look on its face. He's so small and you managed to fit a great amount of detail into him.
I love the cold feeling of the background, its so beautiful and the colors are so harmonious and they fit in with the mother owl extremely well. I adore the snow, and it feels as if you are in the scene by how well it was made. There are so many stories behind this artwork, like her mother is keeping the baby warm or protecting it from an enemy.
The amount of detail of the wood on the trees and the snow and ice blowing around through the wind and creating a large cold feeling is beautiful.
Its very original, and I haven't seen anything like this anywhere which made me give you five starts for originality.
I love this artwork and it was well made, I wonder what inspired you to make this, and what the true story behind this is.

Okay...how do I begin?
The owl...the mother owl...she's spectacular. The detail on her is just superb, and the trails of...is it fire?...coming out of her eyes shows she is highly protective of her young one and is warding any threat away.
The crown on her head is a nice touch, it shows that she has power over other beings. And her wings, spread out protectively over her baby are beautiful.
The baby owl...for one so small, you put great detail into him/her. He/she's so pretty! And the look on he/she's eyes....he/she' looking at his/her mother in a really babyish way, which is really sweet. And the spots are beautiful.
The background...oh, don't even get me started....I think the background is amazing. The cold ice, I bet that's what Mother Owl is protecting her baby from. And something more...some sort of creature, but maybe that's just my wild imagination running away with me, lol...
Back to the critique. The detail of the wood on the trees and the snow and ice blowing around and freezing everything is truly amazing.
All in all, an exquisite piece of work. Keep it up! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

This is my second ever critique I've ever done, so I hope I've done it right!!

Vision: 5 stars
This piece of art is so amazing. When I first saw it, my jaw dropped, because I was so astounded that someone could create such an amazing thing. I found that this truly represented how a mother would feel about their child, or in this case, her chick.

Originality: 4.5 stars
This is the same sort of thing that you would always do e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> I love it and your style is perfect. The precision, alignment and angles of this particular portrait are just spot on and crisp.

Technique: 5 stars
I love how everything blends into eachother, like how it does in real life aswell. You have done a fantastic job and I love the colours!!

Impact: 5 stars
I feel that this portrait evokes some strong emotions or parenting and safety. I love how the little owl is looking at his mother in embarrassment e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/> Anyways... I find that the mother is threatening the spectator of the picture of not harming her child. This has been well shown and I love it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>

Well done!
Good luck for your mission, and stay safe!!

The picture is beautiful and clearly portrays a overprotective mother (or a protective mother in general) and a child embarrassed by his mother's actions.

A point off for originality because most moms, animal or human, are protective of their kid(s) and because the picture reminded me of Guardians of Ga'Hoole at first. Mostly because of the tiny owl chick that looks a little like baby Hoole on one of the book covers. Also, you seem to use the glowy wispy eye thingy a lot. Maybe it's your signature or something, but I don't have much a problem about that on this particular picture.

While the picture is well drawn, the owls' toes anonmaly(?) is kinda off. Owls have three toes on the front and one in the back, a total of four. In your picture, both owls only have two front ones on each foot. Also, I'm not sure, but I don't think her eye would be able to see or open so maybe it should be squinted/closed or maybe have that eye glow fainter? The edges of her wings could also be less neat and groomed and more "poofed" out to show aggression. The part where her wings connect to her body look a little too thin to support flight, but I'm not 100% sure.

Overall, it's a very gorgeous and amusing picture. Sure for the block of texte.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" title="Sweating a little..."/>

Okay. For starters, wow. This is an AMAZING piece. I don't know how long this took you... probably a while. So, lets get down to the real image.

The mother Owl. Her over all picture is beautiful. You can feel the deep emotion and protective instinct that she has for her baby when you look at her face. The way the wings arch for her, it looks like she's almost daring you to hurt her baby. I love that. Her colors and shading is amazing. I can't even imagine something that could compare to the sheer emotion that is in this painting.

The baby owl is definitely a lesser yet bigger part of the picture. Though it's small and almost not noticeable, it's also very there. The colors on this baby makes it seem innocent and fragile. The expression seems to be a mix of "Don't hurt me!" and "Mom, I can take care of myself!" Overall, I found the baby just plain adorable.

Now the scenery is something that really awes me. I personally stink at backgrounds so seeing something this fantastic and amazing just makes my jaw drop. The icicles are very real. I can almost imagine the freezing winds and air that are whipping around the pair of owls. The trees are sturdy looking, yet graceful and elegant. The shading you did on these trees and everywhere is breathtaking.

Over all, I feel this painting is a triple thumbs up. I love it and hope to see more of you!

I love this piece of art work! I can look into the mother owl's eyes and see the protectiveness. I feel fearful myself! Though I think since the mother owl was created so wonderfully that the baby owl should have been given a little more detail. You can obviously tell that the young owl is scared but I think it could hav been projected better. I think that the winter night and the wisps off of the mother's eyes and brows make this piece intense and helps tie it all together. Over all it's great!! I would love to see more from you!
