Wow! I had no idea you could draw dragons! Thats insane! I know from personal experience just how hard they are to do and you did this flawlessly! I really love the subtle dappled lighting on his face and the woman's arm, That must have been hard and it makes for a great focal point. That soft light of the top branch, MAN that is so cool!   You really captured some nice skin tones on her arm especially the deltoid and hand impress me most and I'm very pleased to see you took your time getting the fingers just right. I can see your brushmanship has been drastically improving, I saw a huge improvement from your orc piece and your skills are just continuing to grow. I'm really impressed with your edges and color sense. The composition is absolutely beautiful and I like how you framed the characters. Everything in the image flows right to the center of interest from the berries in the foreground, to the leaves and branches. Fundamentally I see this as a flawless image!

Design wise, I love the shapes of the dragons face. I'm a sucker for them but this guys character is great. The scales are so well done and I love that its not a cookie cutter scale design, each one is unique and it really adds to this friendly character. And how shape wise its a very round and boxy making him look more tame and friendly.  I love the eye brow scales and how they look worn and show his age, adding a bit of story telling into this as well. This honestly looks like its a cover of a book, or a book illustration. I could go on about every little detail because every one is so well made and thought out with skill and appeal. This in my humble opinion deserves a Daily deviation. Well done Jon! Keep up the great work!

First of all Rujii, thank you for taking the time to write this awesome comment. A lot of people do not understand the time and difficulty it takes to create something like this. When I find out that someone really looks at one of my paintings and appreciates it, it means the world to me. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for looking so deeply into my painting and finding all of the things I worked so hard to show. If I were to get a Daily Deviation it would be like hitting the lottery for me, lol, it probably shouldn't be so high on my priority list but hey, we all have dreams right. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Do you know how long it took overall? I always find I spend so long refining the details and improving a piece, worth it in the end though!

This took roughly 40 hours from sketch to finish. Time flies when I paint, but those last 5 hours or so of detailing can be gruesome. The more time you spend pays off though as long as you are heading in the right direction. Honestly I almost scrapped this painting half way through because I couldn't get the left side to look right. You can see the progress photos on my website, the dragon was looking pretty stupid in the middle stages when I decided to make him look friendly. But all of the time and changes were definitely worth it, I'm happy with how it turned out.

I know the pain, many times I've got near the end of a painting and just wonder what I've done. Even worse when you spend a day improving something and somehow it ends up worse! It was effort well spent in this case, your tweaks definitely worked. Ill have to take a look at your website and the progress pics
