Description Project 52, week 12
[my theme ]
The song: The River (view the music video here )
The lyrics: I will fight the spirit
With a sword in my side.
She found a way out:
Crack my rib,
Wait to die.
I think I know you best when I sleep.
I think I know everything.

Me and my brothers,
We have tongues sharp as knives.
I found a way out:
Make a noise, close your eyes.
I think I talk to you best when I sing.
I sing about almost everything.

Oh god I need it,
So let me see again.
Take me to the river
And let me see again
Oh my god,
Let me see again.
Oh my god,
Let me see again.
Let me see again.

Grace taught her daughter
Daily on.
God how I feel it,
Fed her pride to your feet.
I'm gonna leave you the first chance I get.
I'm gonna leave you the first chance I get.

Oh god I need it,
I was wrong again.
Take me to the river
And make me clean again.
Oh my god,
Make me clean again.
And oh my god,
Let me see again. The inspiration: There's a place that I absolutely loved when I was little. Well, I can't even remember where it was, but I still think about it. It was on a river, as far as I can remember, and there was just a little space where the tree branches leaned far over so they were almost touching the water and it was like a little hiding spot because it shielded you from everything else in the world. I just remember feeling so peaceful and alive there. It's hard to explain but it was a great place.

That's the sort of thing I wanted to capture for The River. I had no idea where or how I would find such a place, but it's what I was imagining. Now, that's not what this picture is, honestly – there's no river anywhere near where this shot was taken. But it's the same sort of feeling that I was hoping to capture – warmth and ethereal security, kind of.

As I was taking this picture, I just kept thinking of this song. The mix of harshness and softness really fit the weather conditions: it had just poured rain so everything was wet and cold, but the sun was just blazing from the horizon. Interesting mixture.

The technique: Believe it or not, this is not edited in the slightest. This is the raw shot that I was able to take. The lighting was so, so cool; I had an absolute blast playing around with the angle of the camera and that sort of thing.

The only drawback was that it was still really wet so every time the wind blew even slightly a whole bunch of water would come tumbling down from the trees above me.

I've looked at this picture a bunch of times and still can't delete it from my message center because I just want to keep seeing it whenever I'm on dA.

Aww, this is beautiful. I love the golden light on the leaves. Although there's a bit of a blast of it from the left-hand side, it does look nice like that – and it goes with the theme of your other ones too.

I had a place like that when I was little too! (Minus the water. ) Woodland dens are the best, aren't they?

You're welcome! I did too. We gave them all numbers. Then I'd come back a few years later and find they were overgrown. XD

I always have to be careful about clicking the YouTube links you leave in your artist's comments. I become addicted to them.

Completely unedited? That's rather fantastic. This is gorgeous.
