Description In anticipation of Pixar's first live-action movie, I've been re-reading Edgar Rice Burrough's "John Carter of Mars" books and wanted to try my hand at a drawing Deja Thoris, the titular (pun fully intended) damsel-in-distress from "A Princess of Mars".

It'll be interesting to see if Disney adds her to their pantheon of princesses... I sure hope they do, 'cause hubba-hubba!

And, yes, I know she usually goes around all naked and stuff but a little Slave Leia snuck in there.

Brush and ink on bristol board.

My only quibble is that she's got a navel (since, you know, hatched from an egg and all). But then, it was my only quibble with the movie, as well (yeah, yeah, cinematic license and all...)

Personally, I hope Disney DOES add her to the roster of Princesses. Because "Saves Her Own Ass" Combat Action Accessories are something every Princess doll needs. NEEDS, I tell you!

I totally forgot about the navel thing and, since my version was based on Zivity model Di'Smay and she has a belly button (fortunately! Otherwise: weirdness), I gave Deja one as well.

Hey, it works for me, and I'm not complaining (when do I ever complain about your work?).

And yes: Otherwise: Weirdness.

Great picture! And this is the first I've heard of the movie or the books. I went and Wiki'd it and it sounds interesting!

They're full of over-the-top pulp fiction sci-fi adventure on a grand scale (and are pretty good for having started 99 years ago).

Thanks. I was inspired by Frank Cho's depictions of her (but I can't draw women as well as he can, darn it!)
