Description City lights shimmered upon the metropolitan world on Brunnis, flickering in a mesmerizing dance as the vast globe eked its way through a slow orbit around the unimaginatively named B-772. Whilst beautiful, the star-like twinkle of the sprawling cities was for a far less fanciful reason - the result of decades of mining, construction, and over population.

Colonized by the Federation nearly one hundred years previous, with the aid of the bureaucratic Haasians, Brunnis had been hailed as a ‘Forgeworld’ - the answer to the aiming interstellar power’s needs. Having been crippled by the Borg invasion in the latter half of the twenty-fourth century the Federation had never fully recovered. Many outlying systems still found themselves without Starfleet’s full protection, and with scarce resources the most ravaged worlds had turned dangerous black markets and local conflict. The loss of billions of lives at the hands of the collective continued to take its toll, albeit in a very different manner.

The bountiful world of Brunnis had promised to change all that.

”Federation Starship Avery, you are cleared along your present vector for docking procedures.” A snub faced Haassian spoke from the Avery’s main viewscreen, his stubby arms meandering across a console. “Please have your helmsman be watchful for cross traffic from orbital mining installations.” He droned.

Lt. Commander Aniris Sh’Vathadwe stifled an impatient sigh. She didn’t enjoy dealing with Haasians at the best of times, but after being instructed she must thoroughly read Citadel stations many detailed regulations before the Avery docked, her opinions of them were rapidly approaching a new low.

“Yes Efreitor Olnek, as per Brunnis Orbital sub-law 251c. We’re well aware of the…” Aniris paused, searching for a more diplomatic term than ‘ridiculous’. “…extensive additional regulations regarding orbital traffic in your little corner of the Federation.”

The Efreitor stopped whatever other task he had been doing and, for the first time in their exchange, gave Aniris his full attention. Though with what could only be described as the Haasian equivalent of ‘Hrumph’, he terminated their transmission. The viewscreen blinked back to the busy orbital view of vessels coming and going from Brunnis’ immense orbital starbase, the hub of all inbound and outbound traffic for the planet, as well as a distribution center for raw materials to nearby fleet yards.

Aniris turned and eyed her occupied Ops console with desire as she slowly sat back in the command chair. The Andorian shen had always envisioned starship command as a more glamorous role, but she supposed dealing with the mundane and irritating was all part of the package. As she sat she pondered how the Captain and Commander’s negotiations were going on the planet’s surface, and wishing for their speedy return to the ship.

“Okay Jon, take us in.” Her command to the helmsman was promptly acted upon. “And for the fate of Uzaveh, watch for mining ships. The last thing the Captain will want is to come back and find the ship impounded for a traffic violation…”
