What kind of lighting did you use on this?

Ah it worked nice. On or off camera flash?

Yeah, me too. But I have the SB-800 for my D70 and barely use it, so I can't say the same about off camera as well. Do you sync it or do it manually?

Can't seem to use it or judge it's use as effective as I can natural light. How do you use it? I could use some pointers.

that's very true...
You can hit the test button to see where the shadows lie...
I have a studio light with a modeling light that's on all the time.
I just am kind of use to knowing where the light will go

Hm. So take a test shot, meter off your shadows, and reset?

Meter off my shadows?
Reset what? hahaha
You're talking to someone that never took a class in photography ever...
Damn, maybe I need to get on that huh?

It'd make our conversations slightly more clear, lol, that's all. I don't believe photography is something that can be wholly taught, because a lot of it is thinking and feeling and knowing what will look good, not measuring everything.

Same here. I want to find a reliable setting on the SB-800 I can use to shoot photojournalism assignments and just meter from there, as in go up and down on the settings. So far, I haven't. But then again, I have not gotten around to researching the flash unit in-depth online and finding all the neat tricks I'm sure it has. I got it for free, so I kind of take it for advantage.

Haha you'll understand if I pass on that, right?
I've got so much going on that I just haven't had the time to do any in-depth into it. I plan on it though.
Yeah, yet I post on DA? I may need to re-evaluate my priorities, I know.

What do you mean sync it?
I don't know how you can set off a flash manually, haha.

No, I strobe for products at different distances and effects.

What I do...
I have a sync cord to a normal studio light...
I put my camera on Manual, so I can set the aperture & shutter as I like...
then I adjust my studio light with a slider.
Sometimes I use the SB-800 in addition to the studio light...
I press the up & down buttons to tell it how bright to be.
I don't know any technical names, haha... does that help?

Yeah, you up it by thirds. I do that too. I just don't have studio equipment. I understand now. I thought there was more to the flash I wasn't getting.

JonnyBalls In reply to 95101 [2005-08-11 12:34:20 +0000 UTC]
well, you can sync with the SB800 too... but when I checked it out the cord was like $50, haha.

I like the make-up. It accents her eyes, which i think was the focal point of the picture(atleast to me).
