I bet this makes your mother feel beautiful. The washed out color makes her look like a maniquin, but her eyes are so emotive.

Wonderful work. You've managed to get a translucency - almost porcelein - while at the same time such softness to both counter balance and complement. One of the best effects is the strength in the eye - very subtle colours, just slightly sharper and more toned than the rest of the face. The effect is again a beautiful understatement that carries the weight of the shot effortlessly. Because the whole composition is so well balanced, it doesn't feel 'ghosted' to em at all - 'ethereal' is more the word that springs to mind. This might not be deliberate, but two special compositional things. The right eye is just off centre horizontally, but captured at the top thirds line. But the space between the eyes falls along the horizontal thirds line, which gives this great dynamic as the viewers eye (well, mine does!) swings between the two.
The added bonus is the fine jaw line your mother has, and the wonderful eyes - both enable you to achieve what you have by proving a strong frame for the exceptionally light tone work you've done. A bit special all round.

I like the light tones and colors here, and at first I wasn't sure about the relatively even lighting across the photo (especially since I am used to your dramatic lighting in your self-portraits
