Description I went with the descriptions in the book Black Beauty but also watched the 'dancing scene' of the film over and over, making my VCR still from time to time. This is what I painted as a result. The horses look a little different from their movie equivalents but that's mainly because I use references to inspire me, not to stifle me. That's also why I don't often use references.

I was likely in a very melancholic mood when I painted this.
I went for a more painted, rougher look for this one. I think I like it better than my refined work.

Oh my gosh it\'s BEAUTIFUL!! I thought at first it was the actual shot of the movie scene, I love the colours and the blurring trees and everything, I\'m so favouriting this

Thank you. I used a reference to get the exact feel of that scene. *nods*

I have read the book, yes I had a lovely copy of it when I was little - it was deep burgundy with gold detailing, well thumbed. I don't know where it is now.

I love that scene. Could watch it over and over again. Dancing horses... so pretty. I watched the series too! That tune is amazing, love it. Everytime I hear it I see that black horse galloping through the water. I always realize then how much I love horses.
Your art looks great too. I could have sworn it was a still from the movie. But I know you, you would never steal. The horses look very realistic and you definitely captured the motion. A fav!

Haha, the water... you're talking about the later series of the nineties. The earlier series opening stuck with me much more than that one. I remember my brother used to tease me and make fun of the song when it was on and I'd get incredibly upset. :+
Heh, a still? That's funny you say that because this one may have been inspired from actual pictures (moving but you know what I mean) it has a much more painted and therefore less realistic look than most of my digital pieces. Thanks for the fav!

Thank you. The poses are rather simple, so there wasn't really a challenge there.

This looks real good, I like the color painted look with, I don't recall you doing many like this... well in recent memory anyway.

I don't do too much digital, compared to the number of traditional work, true. But for me, digital is a new medium so I'm looking for a 'way of painting' that fits for me and the medium.

I love this film... I haven't got it on video, but it was on TV a few days ago. I wouldn't let anyone toutch the TV remote at all, and if they did they were at risk of getting hit

Amazing piece, when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a still from the film, that had been altered in photoshop XD

JoSav In reply to Rosalaun [2007-06-08 21:22:55 +0000 UTC]

What a coincidence. Hehe, it has the same mood as the film but has been painted from scratch though I understand thumbnails can be really misleading sometimes.

i definitely recognized the scene right away without even reading the description.

But i have also seen black beauty more times than i think should be humanly possible.

You probably grew up with Black Beauty! I grew up with the rather old fashioned seventies tv series. Haha. The music still gives me goosebumps.

I think my mission is accomplished if you recognized it right away.
