How do you get the sun and sky details? Do you shade then erase? Very stunning by the way. I love these sketches of yours.

I have to say, nice job Β with some of the details in some of your pictures of Canterlot,I try to look for more realistic pictures because it's hard to describe how big Canterlot is in the show, and it often times looks smaller on the outside.

Canterlot looks incredible no matter how an artist interprets it.

Well, this is really impressive! Mind you, this is coming from someone that hasn't even tried to draw anything pony-related. Not to say I never draw, though, but I have no original art actually uploaded on dA.

I like how you made the castle actually look *gigantic*. In the show, it kinda has this 16-bit RPG thing going where from the outside it looks kinda small but then it's bigger on the inside.

Good lord, your drawings are incredible! Every time I click to view another of your drawings i'm blown away time and time again by the incredible detail, realism, imagination and the emotion that go into your drawings.
Where on earth did you learn to draw like this? Or, if you were self taught, how long did it take you to become this skilled?
I mean, I would kill (not literally, of course) to have the drawing skills you have!

He is!
You know something that's stumped me, though, is how to actually get to Canterlot.
If you carefully look at the scenes that show it in "Sweet and Elite", that little portion where the Gala is held is not only a far ways off, but is separated by solid rock - it's on an entirely different ledge than the city itself. Look just to the left side of the base of the left tower of it here: [link] (picture is accurate, I checked). This is confirmed by two moments in the episode when the camera pans past it, and it zips by much closer than the city itself, which is much further away (parallax).
Then there's the boatlaunch; [link] from that angle, it must be north of Canterlot, but then something identical is shown right at the end when Rarity talks about her roots in Ponyville, so there's another boat launch to the south of Canterlot, I guess... And a path going south, so my guess is, just below the Garden and Ballroom, a little ways down the cliff, is the path that leads to Canterlot on another ledge.
It's all very fun, and eye-hurting to study, lol. But I REALLY love things like this, actually. I love to imagine exploring all the nooks and crannies, like the little lower street you drew right next to the enormous fountains, and the little courtyard just above them, or this little garden I noticed just in front of the enormous round building - which I can only guess is the library (remembering S1E1, when Twilight wrote that letter she was looking out enormous windows a lot like those on that huge building.) [link]
So that path Twilight ran along in S1E1, right after the intro, must be just to the right of that building, it was all grassy, so in that garden area... It's like a big puzzle, piecing all this together

Wow, I'm just surprised that they have been consistent with the architecture on the show. I never noticed! Usually cartoons are filled with these types of inconsistency. Maybe the rock you're talking about has a tunnel in it? Who knows, lol

This is just...
I mean.
Sir, could I use this? I have a rather (admittingly not as popular as one could hope) story set within Canterlot, and the current art is... lackadaisical, at best. Would you mind if.... No. Would you give me the honour of using this fine image to embellish my own work?
Here's the story in question:

Canterlot seems to be a very defendable city. What with the seemingly only viable entry into the city is by the rail line.

I'm avoiding the everfree forest because I feel it will end up looking like a regular old forest. My main focus is reality, after all, haha

But you could put the Castle Ruins, and Zecora's hut in view. It would obviously be the Forest. :3

This is twenty times better than my attempt at drawing Canterlot, and It's Traditional!
If I may ask, what tools do you use, and did you have a reference Image?
