Description Mid-Day Meltdown
Denver, Colorado. USA.

Power from the smallest places
And secret hope in empty spaces
To Light with love our hopeless faces
And quench the thirst for endless chases
In the hearts of kings and aces
And queens and Jacks and all the races
Pours new life from empty spaces
The power of the smallest places

Unnecessary Reading. Unless you want to understand the poem and the image...
Chances are that in the context of this image, these words speak a familiar language only to me. Hopefully a little explanation of my thoughts will be enough to get you thinking if you're curious. The power of this angle along with the circular shape reminds me of something familiar to a reactor core. Take that a little farther, and you get me thinking about atoms and protons and neutrons and electrons and Dinotrons and a few other Transformers as well. When thinking about atoms though, I can't help but begin to appreciate the mysterious idea that the most powerful, awe inspiring object in our universe is also the smallest and most fundamental. Even more incredible is the fact that these romantic little things are 99.999% empty space...and that empty space is where this boundless energy comes from. Recent discussions about this very idea...and the fact that if these are the building blocks of EVERYTHING, then they as well are the source of all energy, have gotten me thinking about how little we truly know and understand about ourselves and our world.

All science stops there. By it's very nature, science needs explanation for everything, including it's explanations. There comes a point though, and this is a scientific fact, where no further explanation can be provided. But, and this is also a scientific fact, there is of course, more. It isn't science, and it isn't myth. It requires faith, and this faith is in our knowing that there is something more that we can never explain in any equation or formula. That conclusion is inevitable and couldn't be more fascinating and beautiful to me. Distant from the original image this may be. But, I am delighted at how deeply simple art can get you thinking. Hopefully you will be too. The title is in respect to the unexplainable

I absolutely love this picture.

I remember a few years ago in science I was taught the fact that most of what we considered "solid" is nothing, due to the distance between nucleous and the electrons that orbit it (it was awhile back I may be mixing up my terms). That idea has, to this day fancinated me. This keyboard I'm typing on, this screen I'm looking at, the fingers I'm using to press the keys is esentially nothing... Mind boggling!

I like this shot a lot. The b&w turned out great! The composition is quite strong too. You rotated in upside down, correct? In any case well done.
