The state of being. To be. To know. To be aware. In the Hindu religion, the ascetic, one who is living at the ultimate state of mind, is in a state of Mukti. Ultimate freedom. No frustration and no futility. They are completely separated from the physical world around them, which they believe is nothing but an illusion. As I was shooting this tiny little guy, he stood in this position for nearly two minutes without the slightest movement. He seemed completely unconcerned with my presence...as though I was nothing but some distant mirage. He seemed to be in a state of Mukti. To think of a life free of coercion, not being led the entire way through by commercials and billboards towards the "next great thing" sounds nice to me. Then again, who is a greater victim of coercion than nature?
(Nope, I'm not hindu :])

ohhh, lovely shot.

Such a colorful, beautiful bird, too. The whole shot is full of color too, not just the bird; I particularly like the blue in the background.
