Description Now I may get a lot of hate from this comment but out of all the Marvel heros, I always disliked Thor. The idea that he was a 'god/alien' but looked exactly like us etc etc never spelled well with me. So I came up with an alternate Timeline.

Donald Blake was a research student in ancient cultures and languages. Top of his class he won the chance to go on an archeological dig in Norway.
When digging in a remote area they come across an ancient tomb with writing different to all the others. Don was the only one who deciphered it and realized it was the final resting place of the so called god 'Thor' of Norse legend.

They eventually they break into the tomb, only to be met by an enormous bolt of energy.
Meanwhile the american government and the norwegian government pick this up on sensors and move to descend on the place like flies.

Don climbs into the Tomb to find the sarchphigus of the great 'god'. Its unlike anything he expected. Made of a strange metal and powered by a ominous blue energy.
He opens the lid to see the remains of not a man, but a 7ft tall alien like figure, preserved almost perfectly. Its covered in a strange armor and in its hand lies a large hammer.

Before Don could do anything the body begins to disintegrate after coming in contact with the oxygen. Soon there is nothing but the armor, hammer and pile of dust.
Don goes to reach for the hammer and a bolt of energy tears through his body, sending him flying into a wall.

When he wakes the army have arrived and moved him into a secure tent area. Two men are talking in the room. From what he can make out he realizes that they cant seem to move the hammer, that its weight is off the scales and that the armor has recoiled to nothing but a belt and a large gauntlet.

When the men leave Don decides to make his escape.
He sneaks from the room and through the erected facility.
He finds a room that is unguarded and sits at one of the computers. Pulling up the information he realizes the hammer must be an ancient form of advanced weaponry, same for the armor. Suddenly he hears people coming and runs into the next room.
As he walks through a corridor something echos in his head, like a distant call or longing. Unknown to him, his eyes begin to almost glow blue.
He is drawn into the tomb, now covered in scientific instruments. He walks over to a table with the belt and gauntlet on it. As he runs his hand across the metal the gauntlet snaps around his arm. Pain sears through his muscle as he watches glowing blue veins ripple through his skin.
Suddenly the pain subsided and armor began to grow over his body, folding out of itself.

Out of nowhere swarms of armed men fill the room and point guns at him. They are followed by a man in a grey suit who tells him to put the armor back. Don tries to explain that he didn't mean too but this seems to agitate the man further who begins to threaten Don.
Don tries to explain but they don't listen and open fire. Don closes his eyes only to realize that he's not dead. Opening them he sees his armor is bullet proof, ricocheting the bullets away.

Out of instinct he extends his arm. In awe the men stop firing as the hammer begins to float as it in zero G, then fly into his hand. Lighting begins to roars from the hammer and suddenly as if spring loaded extends and opens into a hammer like mace. Without thinking Donald lifts the hammer and slams it into the ground sending a shock wave out and knocking over all the armed men. He lifts the hammer and a bolt of lightning tears a hole in the roof. He begins to swing the hammer round and round, faster and faster and finally lifts it to the sky and is pulled into the sky.

------

Basically the idea is that Aliens from a distant planet of Asgard visited Earth hundreds of years ago. They fought to defend earth from an invading race the Norse named the 'Frost Giants'.
Eventually they won and most of Asgards troops left back to their own planet. However there were many fatalities. One of which was a general named Thor. He had loved Earth so much that he was asked to be buried there in case of his death.

They honoured his wish.

The tech of his armor and weapon was programmed to work for only one. When Don opened the sarcophagus and the body disintegrated the tech looked for a new 'host' and chose Don.

The armor was one of a kind in the universe known only to the Asgards. Adaptable is can absorb energy in all forms to power itself including kinetic, the more the wearer is struck the more powerful the weapon becomes. The suit is also a charger for the Hammer, a serious weapon that involves attracting and dispensing electrical power, e.g. attracting lighting to locations and also dishing it out. It also contains a rare molecular densifier. Basically means it can manipulate gravity, allowing it to become either incredibly heavy or light as air. This allows the user to create sonic booms/ earthquakes when striking the ground or in turn, by making the hammer light can build up enough momentum and force that with a light weight change it can allow the user to soar through the air.

Its also bio-mechanic. it links to the host nervous system so that it can read what the user needs before they even do, allowing the person to react faster and fight better.

yeah i didnt like the alien concept either...or at least not how they portrayed it. i mean MAYBE the real viking gods were aliens (ancient aliens guy) "aliens!" XD but i was actually a little disappointed when i did see thor. i liked the movie but not as much as i had hoped. once again josh you have given a story of which i prefer your version better and to say the least...i approve!

JoshuaDunlop In reply to CaptainRicco [2012-07-26 06:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Really? I swear he was still the actual god Thor?

CaptainRicco In reply to JoshuaDunlop [2012-07-26 07:06:02 +0000 UTC]

I guess later on they discovered it was a ploy plotted by loki, but before that was discovered the story was that he was a human with a hammer and armor that granted him powers and whatnot, and that he wasnt a god.

I really like this. Its a wonderful twist.

What I'm getting from it, if you don't mind, is that you made it kinda like the Green Lantern. Alien host dies and the relic picks the closest/most worthy person as the new host, and then its taps into mind/body to help advance the host using it.

I always thought the god thing was a bit unfair to the others. Even if they are fighting aliens and super humans, being immortal seems a bit much. But rather then the armor and hammer being tech, I like the thought of it being more magic and mystical.

But I do really like this. I'm looking forward to other renditions you come up with. Good luck.

I guess with superheros I crave a borderline science fiction outlook, mainly because it feels more believable, even though I love magic etc, when it gets tied in with super heros, it just seems like an easy way of explaining something that they cant be bothered to explain. 'So how does that work?' 'Oh...uh...um....magic '

Random-Colors In reply to JoshuaDunlop [2012-07-26 07:43:31 +0000 UTC]

lol, understandable. I guess I just like the whimsy of magic and all that. Well all in all, I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks for the reply.

The God/Alien thing actually makes perfect sense if you know Norse mythology.
In Norse mythology Midgard(Earth) is only one world supported on the World Tree Ygdrassil, there are eight other worlds on this tree.
Midgard is home to humans and to trolls.
Asgardi s home to Gods and Valkyries.
Vanneheim is home to Gods and (I think) Dwarves.
And Jotunheim is home to the Ice Giants.

But the point is, Norse mythology basically DOES say the gods came from other worlds and come to Midgard by crossing the Rainbow Bridge (Bitfrost).
