#PKMN-Battle-Frontier Trial of Fire: [link]

Jikan , UBF10-023
Chaplin , UBF10-147

Team Hoenn! Versus Team Johto (see their awesome entry here: [link] ):

O-Zetta (UBF10-070)
Kyro (UBF10-073)!

Step 1: ~josie-chan wrote script, *Miyukitty sketched: [link]

Step 2: Panels were evenly divided; each artist inked half and colored the other half. *Miyukitty started: [link]

Step 3: Snail mail! The pages were physically mailed across the US, so that ~josie-chan could color her half, and ink the remainder: [link]

Step 4: Mailed back to *Miyukitty to do the final coloring and scanning, which you see here!

Media used Copic markers( ~josie-chan ) with watercolors( *Miyukitty ) on bristol paper. With various inking pens as well.

You can see *Miyukitty 's entry for this, as her character's pov story can be found here[link]

Story! (Chaplin's POV)

Over the past few months up to the trial of fire, Chaplin had been put through various tests for his merit as a trainer. The chills of round two had tested his body, mind, soul, and especially pokemon. He had gained confidence as a person and a trainer from the trial of strength, and he was ready for whatever the UBF had to throw at him. As he would try to work with it to the very best of his ability.

When the trial of fire was announced, Chaplin smiled to himself a bit. He hailed from Hoenn, were double battles had truly kick started as a popular way to battle, and thanks to various….activities he had done in his early adolescence, he was plenty experienced in them. He could only hope for a partner that was willing to work with him, although with his mellow personality it would be difficult for them not to, unless they were overly stupid or immature. The thought of getting paired up with a person made him loose his smile a bit, but nonetheless he looked up his partner and promptly went to contact them.

His partner turned out to be no one other than Jikan of Lilycove city, the neighbor to his beloved Fortree. As soon as he was able to get a hold of her, he could tell right away that while he has not necessarily run into an immature idiot, he had run into someone who was not the most social butterfly in the world. He didn’t mind this though, as he himself had gone through such a stage. She may have been cold and quiet, but he could work with that. When a water stadium was curtly suggested/ordered, he ran with it, seeing no issue with it as over half of his team could work in such a terrain.

About 2 weeks later and after days of practicing with their pokemon and getting to know Jikan through various conversations, it was finally time for their battle. The water stadium they choose was in a sort of pit structure, with the crowd above peeking below at them, much akin to looking in a fishbowl. Chaplin sent out his faithful lantern Leopold, and Jikan sent out her dim witted, but adorable Quagsire. Their opponents predictably sent out their respective pokemon of Milotic and vaporeon. Chaplin gave a nod and smile of respect to his opponents before the battle began full force.

Leopold as a dual electric/water type pokemon and the highest level on the field posed a massive threat to the opposing team. Thus he was easily targeted to be taken out first. Aqua marine the vaporeon was quick to trap him in a pillar of ice, and the Milotic being more of a gentle nature put him to sleep with hypnosis. Chaplin was slightly unnerved by this but counted on his teammate for aid, and Jikan refused to let her partner down, and ordered an iron tail out of Mizu the quagsire to break him free and then wake up her teammate from his slumber, which was not hard to do considering he was sensitive to noise.

They then executed one of the combos they had been working on. A well known one, but hard to pull off at times due to type mismatches. However, Leopold and Mizu were suited perfectly for it, not being affected by each other. A muddy water and thunder bolt combination. Which would be twice as deadly on a water terrain, against other water pokemon. So as Mizu conjured up a muddy wall to blind the opponents, Leopold activated the electricity that ran within him. It arched all around the wave with a controlled precision, gathering a few stray chunks of ice and pulling them into the attack, and for a brief moment obvious to the trained eye and rough eye a like, the terrifying image of a dragonic quagsire could be seen until the electrically charged wave slammed down on their opponents as Chaplin watched the spectacle with a determined eye....

But thank you for the compliment. <3

Quagsire expressions made my dayyyy. And snailmail perseverance deserves an A++++. And the colors, the watercolor/copic combo really adds a nice effect. And, uh, it's really super awesome.

And everyone has already commented on all of the above, but it deserves repeating!

Haha, the snail mail part was nerver wracking, I was so worried stuff would get lost, because our test letter did! 0^0

I'm thankful for the comment girl, it means a lot. Even if you think your words have been repeated, they are still great to hear! ^^

Well, a toilet has water in it normally, and this is a water stadium, so I have no problem with this logic. xD

Thanks Spartan! Personally I think we should be judged on the drawing itself, and not the process of mailing it, but the process is pretty unique among the entries I think! 8D

I hope we pass to, with plenty of respect to our opponents. ^^

We were hoping you would like it, even if it did mean a potential loss for you guys... But contest aside, it was super fun to work on, and I made a new pal out of it, so even if we don't make it, I still have a new friend and artistic experience out of it. x3

The combo finisher was kind of insane to sketch and line, but I'm so happy that people like it! I was hoping to be able to pull it off right, and I think I did. 8D
