Story:

Not more than a few days later Alva announced to her staff that she would be going a way for a while. They were all gathered in the kitchen. Rebecca had just arrived, with her regular comment on why they weren’t out in the stables yet.

“Good, you’re here” Alva said in a flat voice, she was never happy to see Rebacca really. Sure things had gotten a bit better after she stopped trying to change everything around the stable, but it was still tense between them. And at this point they had stopped trying to hide it.

“I just want you to know I’ll be leaving for a while. You know I haven’t been… completely myself for the last months, and I’ve figured out now that I need a break. I need a break from the stable, the horses, and I just need to be alone for a while” they were all staring at her. Caroline who knew about it, and every reason why she wanted a break, just smiled warmly at her.

“When are you coming back?” Tommy asked, he looked at her like he was gonna lose her forever.
“I don’t know… When I get better. Caroline and Russell will take care of the stable in my place” They both nodded in silence, had been called into her office last night to be informed.

“I’m gonna take Dakota with me, and go up in the mountains. I’ll dig out the cabin if that is necessary and stay there, it’s quiet, no electricity, no people, no way to reach me. I only have the walki-talki with me for emergencies.” She looked at their faced. Both Russell and Caro understood, she knew that. Tommy looked like his world had ended, and Rebecca just gave her an empty stare.

“So you are just running away from your problems, and leaving it all to us then?” she asked in a snarky voice, crossing her arms.

Alva took a deep breath to calm down. “Im not leaving any more work, than you have now. Caro and Russell will take on my part, and if you decide to leave while I’m gone, then they will manage on their own” just saying that Rebecca might be leaving while she was gone made her stomach knot. The thought of Rebecca taking her beloved horses with her, was heartbreaking. They still hadn’t discussed who she would get to take, but Alva knew that conversation would have to come at some point as well.
