WaveDancersCenterfold.SzekeresThis huge collection of characters was the Centerfold for the 1st issue of WaveDancers. Not all the WaveDancers characters in the original story are present in this Centerfold as they were to be held off to be revealed later in the story. Such as Raenafel for instance. It's not often that all the characters are in one panel in the comic, but when they are, it was a heavy duty panel to render, but they always looked great to me as an elfin tribe.
For this painting I painted the background fully over the finished pencil line art, then I layered the characters in paint over the thickly painted background. It was a task to bring them off the background colors, but it was early days in my painting experience.
When laying out this as a pencil drawing, I did the tailed characters first to establish their greater spacial needs, then I interlaced the legged characters around them.
This is a special work for me, and I thought it looked better then the other ElfQuest centerfolds that came out during this time.

I loved the Wave Dancers series when it came out and it was certainly due to the colorful renderings you display here as well as the compelling story and characters.

I loved this series so so much, I was very disappointed that WarP treated you that way and didn't pick up the option for the rest of the series. I don't suppose there is any chance it could be posted online? I've told newer fans about the series but it is unfindable in the wild and I wish they could have a chance to see it. You have the copyright to your characters, and WarP has posted all of their old stuff from the same time online, is there any possibility of some sort of agreement that a web-release could be doable?

I drew the tailed characters first, then fitted the other legged characters around them, as the tailed characters seemed to take up more space... especially the octopus girl.

I prefer to do artworks where there is a frozen moment of something going on ... an action ... a connection between characters. Rather then just a posy pin-up. It has been commented that this is one of my strengths to my work. It's how it becomes real to me.

I only own the Wolf Rider ElfQuest series. And due to financial constraints, as much as I would like to buy and read the rest of the series thats not an option atm.
So I have a question. Why do some of the Wave Riders have fish tails and other extreme adaptations like forearm fins and others do not? ^_^

The Wolf Rider EQ series has been reprinted numerous times, the WaveDancers series has been printed only once, that's why the prices are so extremely high for the WaveDancers comics.
Some of the long lived WaveDancer characters were shape-shifted into the mermaid form, and those shape-shifted elves also have the forearm fins.
More mermaids are always a good thing.

In this instance I painted the background first before painting the characters over on top of it. This made painting the characters harder, for I had to really search for the linework that was obscured by the background colors. I layed the background colors down first to have a consistancy in the rays.
I use all sorts of bruch sizes the smallest I've gone is AAA, but I regularly use size 1 and 2.
