Faces are really hard to do. From getting proportions right to the shading.

Shading and color changes throughout a face. I forced myself to do something where I had to do it.

Thank you for the great comment, motivation to do another one.

This is pritty good drawing but painting aspects need more work.
I think it would add a pop if you take a bit color from the mouth and se on
low opacity and add a bit color on her face aka cheeks and nose.
And also maybe a bit more highlights!?
I see you are doing hair by smudging it?
I found the best way for me is to take big hard round brush on 80% opacity and lower and than
build more colors by zooming in and out the brush.
Her shirt texture is amazing tho (:
Hope it helped a bit.

I feel I am pretty good at landscapes but awful at painting people.

So this was practice to develop skills where I am weakest.

Faces are hard but I am getting better, still a long way to go.

Nose/mouth cringe, aghh.

Yeah I over smudged the hair, tried a different technique.

In the past it was to stringy.

Thank you for the advice and support.

I am glad you found it helpful (:
Yes, for me is opposite. I am kinda new at landscapes so I have a lot mistakes there.
But yes indeed we learn and groe from every painting.

Wow, that's amazing! I like the dynamic way you drew it, with all those strong colors that contrast, combine and give life to the drawing! Nice artwork

Thank you very much.

I am not good at people so this started just as practice.

Still much to learn.

I really appreciate your comment.

I like so much the limited color palette and, that you're starting to draw more and, experimenting new things. One thing that you could have done different is to disaturate the colours of the eyes and lips, just enough that they're not hit the eye that much and, to unify the hole face.  All in all, good job!

Thank you my friend for the feedback, I have reworked the eyes.

I am going to research painting lips and revisit this to fix them.

Faces are so hard, which is why I did this. Know where you are weak and go at it.

Thank you again.

Yes, the eyes are very much improved with the edited version.
When I first started drawing digitally I had hard times with hairs. Then I found this tutorial and, it meant sense to me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3J7Th… I did it and, this tip hair tutorial www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxITvf… and, somehow I wasn't struggling that much after, with hairs.  I hope you'll find them helpful.

Thank you, the reference photo I used she has brown eyes and dark brown braided hair.

It wasn't intended to be the actress, made it my own, really it doesn't look like her.

Kept the name for honesty about the reference.

Thanks again and thanks for the links, cgcookie is a great help for artists.

You captured the hair already very well, but I think the color of her eyes has a quite unnatural blue tone.Nevertheless it´s a good start.

You are exactly right on the eyes, I have changed them.

The hair isn't perfect but not as stringy as I have done in the past.

Read a bunch of tutorials and tried a different process. So I really appreciate that.

Thank you so much for giving your opinion.

You're definitely getting better at drawing people - it's a nice work, but I'd change the hue more towards red, since now it looks a bit too yellow.Other than that, keep on drawing, you're getting better and better

JPMNeg In reply to Lairai [2016-01-02 22:14:40 +0000 UTC]

Being color blind changing the hue could go disasterly wrong.

I could try lowering the saturation.

This was really not intended to be finished, just practice.

But I liked how it was turning out so I kept going.

Thank you so much, I always value your opinion.

It could, but where's the fun if you don't risk anything?

I do a lot of that - start out with something that is supposed to be only a sketch and after a few hours, it's a full drawing and I have no idea how it happened.

You're welcome, I'm always happy to help

I believe art is about trying new things, even if it could turn out horrible You'll never move out of your comfort zone if you don't try new things.
