Correction, you don't need to close AI in CS3. I use this constantly and Ive never had to close it
Also, if you copy an object in AI and create a new PS document, it will automatically be created in the size of the object in your clipboard. So Unless you want to change the resolution, don't mess with the dimensions.

are you on a mac or PC? Just courious, because when I was using CS3 and CS4, I had to close AI before it would go to my clipboard.

I'm on Mac, I hadn't thought of the difference with PC :S

Yeah. I'm on a PC and up until CS5 I had to close AI for the stuff to be copied to the clipboard. Seems a little weird that they would do that with the different versions. :/
